The Memory Weaver: A Novel | Jane Kirkpatrick
post image
Pickpick

A true story about the life of Eliza Spalding Warren, whose parents were missionaries in the Oregon Territory in the 1800‘s. I had never heard of the Whitman tragedy. Kirkpatrick is brilliant at weaving the mother‘s diary entries and the daughter‘s first person POV to create a heart-felt, compelling and fascinating way to learn about this historical event. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

Creative and inspiring, this book is written with the shape and movement of a novel, yet pulled together as a "how to" book on personal success. The style is a little campy, and a little preachy at times, but it works. The author tells the story simply, engagingly, mixing history and advice. I recommend it especially for teenagers and young adults, but everyone can benefit from this encouraging book.

The Husband's Secret | Liane Moriarty

Pickpick

A well written story with multiple points of view. This is my first experience reading Liane Moriarty and it won't be my last. At least I was curious enough to finish it and I'm glad I did. It is, in fact, a novel full of secrets - not just a husband's - and isn't that what all our lives are made of? The author poses this and many other thought-provoking questions.
