After being lured into clicking an Audible daily offer WHICH DIDN'T EXIST for the n-th time, I got so pissed that I bought a long-sitting audiobook in my wishlist which isn't even on a sale. Ha! Take that, Amazon!... 🤔

The Higgs Boson and Beyond | Sean Carroll, Teaching Company, David T. Kung

Pickpick

Amazing! Besides the special focus on the Higgs boson, it's a gentle introduction to particle physics (as far as the definition of gentleness goes). The lecture also tackles things like particles that aren't particles, particles with negative mass, zombie cats, and other mundane topics. it's also great if you want to know more about quantum physics and show off the feat to your friends, but don't feel like delving into these strange waters.

Mehso-so

I'm shocked that one of my favorite, dearest authors didn't deliver it this time. Don't get me wrong, some parts made me laugh my ass off. But the densely crammed humour grew unexpectedly annoying by ⅓ of the book — at which point I ditched the Brazilian translation and went on with the original, and it felt a little better. The plot is ingenious and very Doctor Who-esque, but it isn't a book I'd recommend as the entrée of the Douglas Adams world.

Couldn't stop laughing in the bus today, just when the company's psychologist sat beside me. I wonder what she thought 😂 #languagelerning

Permutation City | Greg Egan
post image
Pickpick

"Permutation City" is one of those gedanken experiments which screws hard with your brain if you invest more than 5 minutes thinking about it. It's not the masterpiece of novels, and some of the characters have shallow roles and are there because god-knows-why. However, the author's style is pleasant and his hypothesis is very sound. It's a fair trade-off if you are into the hard sci-fi genre; a trade-off which is better digested with alcohol ?
