This was an amusing and witty read. There were some slow parts in the middle where I was wondering what the point was with certain characters and scenes, but it all came together at the end.

"The English, by and large, being a crass and indolent race, were not as keen on burning women as other countries in Europe. In Germany, the bonfires were built and burned with regular Teutonic thoroughness. Even the pious Scots, locked throughout history in a long-drawn-out battle with their arch enemies the Scots, managed a few burnings to while away the long winter evenings."

Haven't really been reading lately, so I picked up Good Omens again and came across this gem: "Churches? What good did they ever do? They'm just as bad. Same line o' business, nearly. You can't trust them to stamp out the Evil One, 'cos if they did, they'd be out o' that line o' business."

Listening to this rendition as I work on a commission. If you NEEEEEEED more for your Good Omens fix this one is HIGHLY recommended. Different, just like the TV series, but still hilarious 🤣🤣🤣

....and there's cameos from both Neil and Terry in it

Best mail day ever! My #bookhaul from BookOutlet and my monthly puzzle subscription (+ 3 more I bought on sale) from Puzzle Warehouse arrived on the same day! 🥳

Guess what my plans are for this weekend?! 😉

Leftcoastzen I think I might be sorry to hear of a place called puzzle warehouse.💸 1w
wanderinglynn @Leftcoastzen No, no! 😉 It‘s a happy place. I‘ve even been to their brick & mortar store in St. Louis—as good as walking into a bookstore. And really, their monthly subscription is quite reasonable. (I *might* be a puzzle 🧩 enabler 😂) 1w
janeycanuck Monthly puzzle subscription?!? I need to go investigate this immediately. 1w

TheAromaofBooks So tell me more about your puzzle subscription?? This sounds very intriguing! 1w
wanderinglynn @janeycanuck Yep! Every month and I can swap it out if I don‘t like the one they pick. 😀👍🏻 1w
wanderinglynn @TheAromaofBooks I‘m on the standard plan, which means I get one 1000-piece puzzle every month. If I don‘t like the one they select, I can swap it out. I‘ve been a member for 3 years now. And they have fantastic customer service. And if you buy any other puzzles that month, you can opt to have them ship with your monthly one so no shipping. Here‘s more details: https://www.puzzlewarehouse.com/puzzle-of-the-month-club-details/ 1w
mabell Cool! Puzzle Warehouse is 15 min from my house! You can see it from the highway, and it‘s like, huh, there‘s a puzzle store. 🤔 Neat! Good to know what it is! 1w
TheAromaofBooks Thank you for the info! I am definitely checking this out. Just last night my sister and I were talking about how much we love doing puzzles, especially during the dark days of winter! 😆 1w
janeycanuck @wanderinglynn that‘s so cool. Sadly, it looks like I can‘t do it in Canada. I‘ll have to see if there‘s a Canadian one somewhere. 1w
OnlyYoo I had no idea there‘s a puzzle subscription! I wish I had more time to do puzzles. The Disney ones at Barnes and noble are my favorite 1w
wanderinglynn @mabell That‘s so cool! It‘s a pretty awesome store. 👍🏻 1w

"Then he'd tried believing in the Universe, which seemed sound enough until he'd innocently started reading new books with words like Chaos and Time and Quantum in the titles. He'd found that even the people whose job of work was, so to speak, the Universe, didn't really believe in it and were actually quite proud of not knowing what it really was or even if it could theoretically exist. To Newt's straightforward mind this was intolerable."

Firstly, God moves in extremely mysterious, not to say, circuitous ways. God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e., everybody.] to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won‘t tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

Reread. Light yet intelligent. Laugh out loud funny. Feel good without being insipid. The Hitchhiker's Guide of Armageddon. Pratchett & Gaiman match up perfectly - like roasted red bell peppers and goat cheese. One of my all time favorites. First time with the audio version and enjoyed the narration.

After watching the Prime series recently I enjoyed my re read of the original book. It is of its time in some places, but mostly charmingly so. Some lovely extra pieces about the collaboration from both writers and some great pics in this series tie in edition..... I'm sure the pic of them is supposed to echo with the series image (Sheen and Tennant were both perfect in their roles)

May elaborate in a #readathon wrap up post, but briefly: @brandybear22 reading the prologue of my required reading to me while I moped crampily; Dark Matter, which I listened to for the 21 min it takes to gets to B‘s house from mine; the license plate in front of me when I left home to go to B‘s; KitchenAid‘s bullshit ravioli maker attachment; and oysters from my CSA that may have saved the weekend, really. Also, we watched ep2 of Good Omens.

This genre is growing on me. It's like a cross between Roald Dahl and C.S Lewis. Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman have created a modern classic. There are some hilarious lines, especially as I'm British and there's so much fun poked at us. The message of Good and Evil and how easy it is to mix the two up, is a powerful philosophy and encourages the reader to think about more than the story itself.

“Aziraphale collected books. If he were totally honest with himself he would have to have admitted that his bookshop was simply somewhere to store them....In order to maintain his cover as a typical second-hand book seller, he used every means short of actual physical violence to prevent customers from making a purchase. Unpleasant damp smells, glowering looks, erratic opening hours - he was incredibly good at it.” #Collect #QuotsySept19
