The biblical story of Abraham and Isaac is transposed into a modern world even madder than the ancient Middle East in Jacob Bacharach s hilarious novel."

Mehso-so

For most of the read you could tell it was trying to go somewhere, it just took a lot of pages to get there. The characters where kind of all over the place, couldn't really see what their motivation was for anything. Thinking about it now, the story lines just sort of ended. Ended, not concluded. He thanks his editor for telling him his first draft didn't make any sense. I think more drafts were still needed. It wasn't horrible, just not great.

I downloaded this new book app, Bookout. Is anyone else using it? It keeps prompting me to upgrade to the paid version, and while it is a novelty to track my reading for now, I'm not sure it's worth the $7 Will I get bored of this? Is there any other great things I'll get besides unlimited number of books to track? I know I've wasted money on lesser things, I hate getting tricked into using an app only to have to pay to get the real features.

DGRachel It's okay, but I don't know that it's anything really special. I use it and paid to upgrade it, but I'm not enamored. 8y
Arbol Definitely NOT worth the money. I also paid for the upgrade but since there is no log in you can't sync across devices and lose everything (all history. Books logged.data) if you have to restore factory settings or get a new device. It's really a disappointment. They must have raised their prices bc it wasn't $7 when I upgraded. They shouldn't have done that if they haven't added any new features which as far as I can tell they haven't. 8y
readinginthedark Eh, I haven't used this app, but I use the Goodreads app to track my books, and it's pretty easy to use and free. 8y

underthebelljar I just started using it too but I don't think I'll upgrade. I just use my iPod's stopwatch instead of the app's timer so I don't have to see the ads then add the reading session to BookOut later. 8y
balletbookworm @Arbol oof. Any app that doesn't have an option to sync data to a cloud or between devices is so far behind the times. Especially if it's a paid app 8y
auntie_jenn i downloaded it, but it wasn't immediately intuitive for me, so haven't looked again. i don't need a stopwatch or page counter. another gimmick, imo. 8y
susanw @DGRachel @Arbol @BookishJess Thanks for your input! It doesn't sound worth it. Especially for that steep price (I'm in Canada so maybe different pricing?). 8y

What if the biblical Abraham lived in modern times? Would people question his parenting skills? Would anyone believe that he talked to God? I'm intrigued by the premise of this novel.

susanw I literally just started this one right now! It does look interesting, and I hope it's as hysterical as they claim. 8y
BethFishReads I just got it today. Hope it's funny and interesting 8y
