Cute story. Too much beer plot and not enough character interaction for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
i loved this family memoir that tells how they lived in four different countries to experience different cultures. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
this title was on so many lists this summer, but imo didn‘t live up to the hype. the first 60-70% were fairly tight, but it unraveled quickly after that. so many important but competing issues, some storylines just got dropped, and it rushed to the end.
super cute end-of-season romance as only you would expect from Rainbow Rowell.
good beach read finished in my beach place just before the summer ends. 3.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
on the audio book...i just couldn‘t get past. the fact that. the author could only read. a few words. between pauses. i applaud her willingness. to read. her own book. especially as a shy introvert. but she was poorly coached. and it didn‘t sound. natural at all. that said, lots of great stories and ideas for introverts to get out of their comfort zones.
the author lost me with the faulty Cape Cod reference on page 30-something and never really redeemed herself. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
i‘ve been picking away at this essay collection that got rave reviews...but really, what middle-aged white woman needs to read about another‘s agita? ⭐️⭐️⭐️
three things i loved about this book: 1. the setting (anyone else want to go to Holland with me?), 2. the family dynamics, and 3. the mystery. good selection @readwithjenna ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
it took me a bit to get into this family chunkster. first half all the characters annoyed me, but as the backstory evolved, they grew on me in that imperfectly imperfect way characters do. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
somehow i ended up with the large print version...and there‘s all this bold type is areas of emphasis? does the regular print have this, too?
In advance copies of “City of Girls,” Elizabeth Gilbert provided a note to her readers, claiming she wanted her new novel to “go down like a champagne cocktail — light and bright, crisp and fun.” (NYT) 5 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
i know i‘m in the minority here, but i couldn‘t do it. is the language beautiful? yes! but the stream of consciousness with no plot to hold onto didn‘t work for me.
books, cats, trivia, quirky humor? yes!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
worth the hype ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
all the feels of a perfectly done rom-com. great humor, flawed characters you want to be friends with, and a happy every after ending. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
zipped through this in two days. fantastic family drama 💙
overall, i liked it, but it was probably 100 pages too long.
just back from Toronto where I went up the CN Tower to see beautiful views of the city. Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
i put this book in my cart back in February when i heard of Rosanunde Pilcher‘s passing. i was in my teens then it first came out, but remembered my mom reading it. i started it a few weeks ago as my annual throwback read and left it at the Cape. we were finally reunited this week and it felt so good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #books #bookstagram #read #reading #amreading #throwback
when i finished Sarah Winman‘s TIN MAN last year i knew i had to check out her backlist. so glad i did!
i loved this story so much i listened to many parts of it twice! single gal with a cat who likes plants and literary references? yes, please!
bailed around the four hour mark. the narrator was great, but the story, told in stream of consciousness, had a lot of beautiful words, but not enough plot.
i saw another review say of Normal People that "At its core, it‘s about love—but don‘t mistake it for a romance (GraceAtwood),” my heart hurts. excellent character development, unexpected ending.
i stopped at Odyssey Bookshop today and in exchange for some cash they gave me three books and a super cute tote! #independentbookstoreday
compulsively listenable and all. the. feels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
love a good sweeping family drama ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but is anyone else getting tired of cassandra cambell narrating all the popular lit fiction lately? #thereisaidit
probably the only person who bailed. i just couldn‘t with the writing style. i gave it 130 pages and found myself cleaning closets on my day off instead of reading. don‘t hate me 🙈
i read 65 books in 2018. here are some of my favorites ❤️
bring all the tissues for this beautiful translation 😢😭😪
sometimes you wander through the bookstore and a title feels like the right thing to be in your hands. the weight, the paper, the title. i read this a hundred years ago, and it was high time for a revisit. as good as i remembered. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
as much as i love Cassandra Campbell as a narrator, southern accents aren‘t her strong suit. luckily this story was stong enough to overcome. 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
560 pages flew by and i could have kept going as i enjoyed all the storylines. if you loved Pachinko, give Lee‘s debut a read. 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
devoured a chunk of this big, beautiful novel from my vacation chair. sending warmth to those in the winter storm 🧡
the first section really held my attention, but then it kind of jumped the shark. the story is told by Wash, a slave boy. as the story progressed, i felt like he was just a narrator, not someone i was invested in. surprised i finished.
flew (ha!) through this puzzle listening to those saucy, salty Punjabi widows 😬
had the pleasure of seeing @Liberty interview Edward Carey last night. and yes, she walks perfectly fine in those boots!
so many good reviews, but i bailed. too much jumping forward and back. never made a connection with any of the main characters. 200 pages and i‘m calling it. #somanybookssolittletime #bookstagram #book #read #reading #dnf
fun and outrageous! if you liked Ready Player One or Dark Matter, check this one out. 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
so glad i switched to audio so i could listen to the beautiful south african accents in this narration 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
