To capture love, sometimes you have to grab it by the horns If a woman could die of humiliation, Cecily Hale would have perished three hours ago. Luke Trenton had finally returned to Swinford Manor, only to cruelly spurn her long-held love. But she couldnt conveniently die of shame on the spotoh, no. Instead she joined her friends on this ridiculous search for a legendary man-beast. Now shell die herealone in the woods, at the tusks of a snarling boar. Luke left for war a dashing youth and returned a manjust not the same man Cecily fell in love with. His passion for her is stronger than ever, but the ravages of battle changed him in ways she wouldnt understand. Pushing her away was supposed to save her, not throw her into the path of another inhuman creatureor into the arms of another man. For it is a man who rescues Cecily, just as the boar attacks. A mysterious, silent man who disappears into the woods, leaving her with just a glimpseof a fleeing white deer. Could her rescuer be the man-beast of local lore? A dangerous myth has captured Cecilys imagination, putting Luke on the horns of a dilemma. Unless he summons the passion and tenderness to win her back, he could lose her foreverto the Werestag.

This was a just ok historical romance novella by one of my favorite authors. I think the big problem was that it was a novella, it was rushed and lacked character development and it had a weird plot point that felt out of place. 3⭐️

ravenlee I love Tessa Dare but her novellas don‘t ever really work for me. They seem rushed and unnecessary. 2y

Pickpick

I love Tessa Dare. This novella lacks some of the laugh out loud humor of her more recent work, but it still has funny moments, great characters, and a heartwarming love story. Perfect for when you need a quick HEA.

Grasping her by the hips, he crushed her to the wall and kissed her with abandon. And unlike a typical kiss, which started with superficial contact and then deepened by degrees, this kiss began at the end.

He‘d been prowling this bedchamber every night, driven wild by the knowledge only two oaken doors and some fifty paces of wainscoted corridor lay between him and the woman he‘d crossed a continent to hold.

She‘d always worn melancholy well. She was rather like the moon that way: a fixture of bright, alluring sadness that kept watch with him each night.

He kissed her hungrily, thoroughly, without finesse or restraint, as though he hadn‘t kissed a woman in years and might not survive to kiss another tomorrow.

“Cecily, what I want from you is not tender. It‘s not romantic in the least. It‘s plunder . It‘s possession.
