Another fun romp with Carl & Princess Donut. This one isn‘t quite as good as books 1 & 2, it‘s last third is just bonkers and at times confusing. Still a very fun read. 4⭐️

Yay a win of a read! This was excellent. A retelling of Huckleberry Finn, with a mix of adventure, heartbreak, fear and joy. I really enjoyed it, a quick read too! 5⭐️
My first #bookspinbingo!
Continuing on a bad track of books not for me. I thought this was going to be a thriller/horror but instead it‘s a police procedural with a truly unlikeable protagonist. #hailthebail #dnf
Well this is a bummer to #dnf, as I really enjoyed his previous books which are somewhat connected to this one. However, a reveal at the 50% mark made me no longer care what happened. Up til then I was quite riveted. Is the second half worth continuing? I‘m guessing no as this book has very little buzz. #hailthebail
A genuinely scary collection of stories. My favorites being Ghost Camera & A Box of Tapes. 4.5⭐️
This is not a bad book, it‘s just the humor is not clicking for me. It doesn‘t help that I have been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl which is infinitely funnier. So #hailthebail
A book off my #roll100 off the #tbr
Well this was a bummer. The first 10% basically made the previous book not matter so bailing on this one. #hailthebail
This was just ok. I will always love the wonderful cast of characters, however the mystery in this one was just a little dull. Also I am really over the house renovation side plot, can it be done already?! 3⭐️
On a reading roll today. Another super fun adventure with Carl, Princess Donut & Mongo! 5⭐️
#doublespin pick done
A striking, beautifully written book that leaves you with more questions than answers but said a lot about what it is to be human. 5⭐️
The horrifying true story of the poisoning of hundreds of women. The complete disregard for the health of fellow human beings by big business always breaks my heart. The writing was dry at times, but the story of these women kept me reading. 4⭐️
My reread of Stormlight Archive continues and I finished this one today. Such intrigue, politics, twists and turns. Slow at times but still excellent. 5⭐️
Here‘s my #bookspinbingo board for my #NovemberTBR. I can‘t believe it‘s November already. My #bookspin pick is Graveyard Shift, a new novella by M.L. Rio
My #doublespin pick is Carl‘s Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman, the second Dungeon Crawler Carl book.
A few carryovers from October and continuing to focus on reading what I own.
October wasn‘t the strongest month of reading. My favorite was tagged, such a weird twisty thriller. Best to go into this one knowing nothing.
#readingbracket2024
Here is my final #bookspinbingo board for October.
#bookspin pick The Embroidered Book was a DNF but off the TBR
I did get halfway through my Oathbringer reread so #doublespin done
4! #bookspinbingos!
Thank you @wanderinglynn for another great #HHS24 #hauntedhallowswap
I forgot to jot down the person who sent mine and my cat knocked the card somewhere. Thank so much for the wonderful package!
Here is my full #NovemberTBR. Just a few carry overs from last month. Participating in #Roll100, #bookspin, #doublespin & #bookspinbingo as usual!
Here are my #NovemberTBR #Roll100 picks:
Starting the next Robin Hobb series with “Dragon Keeper”
“The Bloody Chamber and other stories” by Angela Carter
“Migrations” by Charlotte McConaghy
A very unique and disturbing take on vampires. Difficult to read at times but an excellent mystery story. Also such great writing. 4.5⭐️
A solid YA-ish horror retelling of the Legend of Sleepy Hallow. I liked the new take on the classic story, it just dragged at times and I almost wish it was a novella. I did enjoy it overall. 4⭐️
#bookspinbingo!
A delightfully dark horror with some humor. If you liked the horror movies Ready or Not and The Menu, this is definitely for you. 4.5⭐️
Sorry to bail on this one, I just can‘t get past the age of the girls and the dialog. #hailthebail
#bookspin pick off the TBR
#bookspinbingo! #roll100 selection done
This was a great, very gross, entertaining folk horror story. I would recommend not knowing much in advance, just note that has some very gnarly body horror. If you are a horror movie fan-I definitely recommend. 5⭐️
I wanted to give this a pick, but it‘s a close So-so. This story of two best friends who have a far too wild girls night has a lot of possibility. However, it‘s a light horror that can‘t quite decide what it wants to be. I wish it focused more on the female friendship-that is when it‘s strongest. The characters just aren‘t quite fully developed but it was a quick easy read. 3⭐️
A very entertaining mystery about a missing violin and how a young black man navigates many challenges to become a world class musician. There were some predictable moments and I guessed the twist, but it was still a sad, dramatic and motivational read.4⭐️
A fun, spooky short installment in the Immortals After Dark series. Here a witch seems to be cursed to be haunted by all the spooks every Halloween. She teams up with a Demon who ditched her on what seemed like a perfect date. Solid fun read! 4⭐️
This was…fine. I liked the idea of it, but the miscommunication was a bit annoying. 3⭐️
This was overall a so-so collection of horror stories. The one standout was “Challawa” by Usman Malik, which was excellent-which moved this up to a 3.5⭐️.
My #HHS24 aka #HauntedHalloweenSwap package is on its way! Sent Priority Mail so should arrive in a few days.
A classic gothic horror about a family with dark secrets. I did guess the mystery, but the journey was entertaining and the sense of dread and the darkness of humanity was so well written. 4⭐️
Another fantastic horror read. Genuinely chilling. I would call this the Exorcist mixed with Lord of the Flies. Very dark, scary and gory - note children and some animals are harmed in this book. Great for this month, but also would be a great winter scary read. 5⭐️
An extremely creepy and horrifying story that goes to unexpected places. I recommend going in blind. Excellent and original horror. 5⭐️
This feels like a companion novel to the authors other slasher series - The Indian Lake Trilogy. The big difference is our main character and narrator is the slasher of the title and how he becomes slasher of the story. This is definitely for fans of the slasher genre and follows all the rules. The first 2/3 of the book was such fun, but the pacing became uneven in the final act when it should have been fast paced. ⬇️
I lovely , dark fairytale story without the romance. Quite the opposite actually, where a young girl is told she is to marry the local lord. When she visits his house, things are much darker than she feared. Not my favorite T. Kingfisher book, but a solid read. 4⭐️
DNFing this one. The entire premise makes no sense, why would anyone bring people from the past to the future and attempt to integrate them into society? It just seems cruel and I can‘t get behind the book‘s story. Also the audiobook narration is strange and stilted.
#hailthebail!
This was delightful, character packed new mystery series! Like the author‘s other famous series - Thursday Murder Club - this is very much an opening book, which is introducing a big cast of characters. It can be a lot at times, so it took me a while to know who was whom. The mystery was a madcap adventure and our main characters are delightful. I look forward to the next book in the series! 4⭐️
Here is my #bookspinbingo October TBR!
My #bookspin pick is The Embroidered Book by Kate Heartfield
My #doublespin pick is Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson - continuing my Stormlight Archive reread.
I had two 5⭐️ reads in September, but one was a reread of my favorite book of all time. So I‘m listing my new read as my top read of September. I‘m a big fan of Catherine Cowles, and highly recommend for fans of romantic suspense/small town romance.
#readingbracket2024
My #SeptemberReads! A slower reading month for me, though still solid.
11 books read
1 DNF - Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky not shown
9 audiobooks
2 ebooks
5 books off owned tbr
1 reread which also my top read of the month - Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. My other 5⭐️ read was Delicate Escape by Catherine Cowles.
Ready to dive into some spooky reads for October!
A return to the more light hearted tone, and a good mystery. I enjoyed this latest installment of the long running immortal series much more than other recent books. 4.5⭐️
A #bookspinbingo!
This is a solid well written fantasy with romance. It took me a while to finish, but I did appreciate the solid world building. It just felt much longer than it actually is, I‘m not sure if it was me being distracted by work this month or the writing, so I still recommend and will at some point continue the series. 4⭐️
Here‘s my #OctoberTBR. I did not read as much in September, being busy at the beginning of the school year. I‘m not committing to any extra Readathons, just #Roll100, #bookspin, #doublespin & #bookspinbingo
My #Roll100 picks for my #OctoberTBR!
The Wicked Deep by Shea Erneshaw
The Seventh Bride by T. Kingfisher
The Embroidered Book by Kate Heartfield
Reread complete! One of my very favorite books and just as good on reread. I‘ll continue my reread of the series with Oathbringer next month. 5⭐️
#doublespin done!
This started strong for me, but then some of the dialog and characterization was bothering me. Also, does he understand how little 7 yr olds are? So sadly DNF‘d. Another book off of my #Roll100 list!
#hailthebail
A lovely follow up to The House on the Cerulean Sea, this book centering in on Arthur, the loving wonderful caregiver to the orphanage in book 1. This one is definitely message heavy, but messages worth sharing. The characters are as lovable as the first book and we get a new character that is a delight. It felt just a little long, and the ending was a bit convenient. However, it was still a comfy, cozy read. 4⭐️
