While waiting for my Kel books to arrive I‘ve decided to reread another old favourite of mine, Charlie Bone (the red kings children). I do love these books so much Charlie is a lovely (although often foolish and quite headstrong) boy who upon realizing he possesses gifts the Yewbeams never expected him to gets swept up in a whirlwind of adventures all while learning about a past he never knew his family had.

Slowly but surely getting my little reading nook. I finally got a lamp that works for the area and a temporary foot stool. I‘m hoping to get a bigger ottoman for my feet but this was really cheap at Five Below for now. Currently I‘m waiting for my tea to seep and will start my audiobook and follow along physically. It‘s been a really weird reading year so far but I keep trying to get myself to read a little here and there.

Crazeedi That looks like a perfect reading book! Enjoy💕💕 4y

Mehso-so

Every once in a while I like to get back to pure imagination. This book starts out a little slow and too simple but definitely picks up. It‘s no Harry Potter or Percy Jackson but it is a quick, easy and immaginative read in the wheelhouse of the genre. I‘ll read the next but the good parts could of been extended a bit longer.

With a few failed attempts at reading something new I've decided to keep with my trend this year and re read another book.

#CharlieBone was one of my favorites when I was a kid and I never got the chance to finish the series. As I start this re read I'm rewarding myself with brand new hardcovers...

#TheChildrenoftheRedKing has been compared to Harry Potter, but dont think of it that way...Charlie is a genius all his own.

Did anyone else read this series? I loved the first few books, but then never got around to finishing the rest. #TBTReads

DuckOfDoom This is exactly what I did. I loved the first books when I was a kid and somehow I don't really know how many of them I have read. Maybe it's time for a complete reread 🤔 6y

🎶 Music plays a central role throughout The Children of the Red King series from the mystery surrounding famed musician (and Charlie Bone‘s dad) disappearance to musical prodigy, Fidelio (one of Charlie Bone‘s best friends) 🎶 MUSIC for #RiotGrams

mcipher I only read the first couple in this series but I loved them! 6y

I didn't get all the way through the Charlie Bone series but there is always next month! I had an excellent month with graphic novels- finishing volumes 2-4 of Giant Days, the first Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and the new Phoebe & Marigold plus the new Sarah Scribbles (even though the first book is in the picture). 17 in total plus a whole bunch of picture books ❤ #marchintoreading

Today while listening to Charlie Bone, I made butter, and used it to make a cake and frosting from scratch. ❤️

BekahPat You do not know how fascinated I am by the statement "I made butter." Wow I am super impressed and it is so pretty. It's art. Your awesome! 7y
Texreader Ditto what @BekahPat said. Holy moly!! 7y
Foragingfantasy @BekahPat thanks y'all! It was easier than you'd think. @Texreader 7y

So much enjoy! This lifted me out of my book slump! Huzzah! Young Charlie thinks he's perfectly normal, thank you very much! And he is - but he can also hear voices in photos... before he knows it, the part of the family with All The Money have swooped in (cackling with glee) and have sent him off to the Bloor Academy. Enter danger and adventure. (Also Uncle Paton 😍) How delicious are the new covers!

Aswenson I really like this series, too, though I've only read the first 3. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Aswenson, I'm hoping to keep the momentum going and have a Charlie Bone March ☺️ 7y

I think of Edna Mode almost every time capes come up 😂

In other news, I'm really enjoying this - it might just be the slump buster I've been looking for!

BookFreakOut They're pretty fun, I've read most of them! 7y
Merethebookgal 😂😂😂👍 7y
Texreader Yep, me too!! Even when watching Dr Strange for the first time Friday night. 😂😂 7y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @BookFreakOut, I saw the new covers at the bookstore and it was 😍 but I borrowed the first one from the library (didn't want to commit to an 8 book series without trying it out first) 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Texreader, I had trouble with the scenes after his hand surgery when he woke up with all those pins in his hands 🤢 I messed up one of my fingers with a kitchen knife, and it was just too close to home (although I didn't have to have surgery) I've never been made to feel nauseous by a film before. That cape tho... it's got a mind of its own, so hopefully it won't end in disaster! 7y
Hooked_on_books I'm the same way with capes! I can hear her in my head! 😂 7y
Smangela It's such a cute series!! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Smangela, just finished it! The next book is out on loan from the library 😭 might have to make a quick stop at a bookstore! Have you read the lot? 7y
Smangela I think I might still need to read the final book. I've reread them a few times though @thegirlwiththelibrarybag 7y
Smangela 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻fingers crossed hold comes in soon! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Smangela, I couldn't wait - made a quick stop at the bookstore on my way to my swim class. It was clearly meant to be as there was a parking spot directly in front of the bookstore, and if that's not fate - I don't know what is 😂 7y
Smangela Hahahahaha @thegirlwiththelibrarybag definitely fate 7y

Panpan

A resounding "meh"

Unimaginative plot, flat characters, confusing tense, and in bad need of editing.

I don't usually pan books this bluntly, but I can tell when the author is talking-down to the kids she's writing for and I do not appreciate it.

Spending the evening reading on the balcony with jazz music wafting down the street... city living isn't half bad.

I thought the book I'm reading was going to be a Harry Potter rip off, but it's actually pretty original! My copy uses the word mom instead of Mum, though, which is annoying since the book is incredibly British...

Usually not interested in magic academies that special kids get sent to, but this book and the rest of the series captivated me from page 1! This was a great escape for me when I was a younger kid. It made me believe that everything's possible if you have the courage to peruse it.

I've loved this series since the first time I read it, way back in primary school. This series exposed me to magic and intrigue at an early age and still inspires to this day.

This was a great choice for a long family road-trip! Does anyone have any ideas for road trip audiobooks to try after this series? They have to please my 13 year old brother.
