6 posts | 12 read | 6 to read
All his life, Moon roamed the Three Worlds, a solitary wanderer forced to hide his true nature until he was reunited with his own kind, the Raksura, and found a new life as consort to Jade, sister queen of the Indigo Cloud court. But now a rival court has laid claim to him, and Jade may or may not be willing to fight for him. Beset by doubts, Moon must travel in the company of strangers to a distant realm where he will finally face the forgotten secrets of his past, even as an old enemy returns with a vengeance. The Fell, a vicious race of shape-shifting predators, menaces groundlings and Raksura alike. Determined to crossbreed with the Raksura for arcane purposes, they are driven by an ancient voice that cries out from . . . .The siren depths.

I finished 10 books in June, which is unusually high for me these days. I got a boost to my reading motivation after finally finishing Borderlands/La Frontera, which is good but challenging so was weighing me down a bit. Good progress on #ReadHarder, finally, plus a couple of extracurricular romance/sff books. The Siren Depths was my favorite, but I'd recommend just about anything on this list. #MonthlyWrapUp

I am in awe of Martha Wells's ability to pack as much action into a short novel as some authors do in a multi-book series, and still have characters that feel psychologically real and affecting. If you're a fan of Murderbot but haven't checked out her earlier work yet, I highly recommend it. I loved this one.

Because we were out and about so much in LA - 2 days at Universal Studios, meeting friends, eating great food - I never really got to really enjoy the deck of the lovely vacation rental. It had a great view and was surprisingly a very quiet neighbourhood, oh except for the first night we were there and John Legend was playing at the Hollywood Bowl for its opening season concert and we could hear it all quite clearly!

If you want to continue a series where the books get progressively weaker and less coherent, do not read this book. If you want a continuation of a thrilling tale of winged beings unearthing the past to create a stronger future, read this book.
