I was captivated by this tense (in a good way) coming of age story. Recommend for anyone who liked Educated. (ARC from @LibraryThing Early Reviewers)

Reading outside and listening to the rain with some seltzer and my patriotic dog. Life is good.

One from my 2019 #TBR .... From the blurb, it seems like the name of this farm gives #falsehope .....
Sounds ominous! 😳
“It is the winter of 1985. Hope Farm sticks out of the ragged landscape like a decaying tooth, its weatherboard walls sagging into the undergrowth.”
Today's opshop haul. Went to the Toronto library summer book sale (like I do every year) but there was only rubbish left😭 luckily I scored at the Salvos! I love a good scrapbooking magazine (if only I had time to scrapbook). The French phase book is because I am off to France this year to be a bridesmaid in a castle for my friend gorgeous friend Astrid!
Another great Australian read. Hope Farm captures the fraught emotional frustrations of growing up and not fitting in, and the painful compromises we all make for love. She captures Australia in the 1980s with atmosphere.
Any book that opens with a quote from one of the best Atwoods has to be good
The writing and mood were tremendous, but I struggled and struggled with Ishtar. Her neglect of Silver, her self absorption, her seeming failure to learn from mistakes just made me so angry in the end, I couldn't keep going.
