This story had a lot of potential, because the actual events make for a very compelling narrative. The way it's written, however, leaves a lot to be desired. The flow of the story is choppy and kind of jumps from point to point. Certain sections just get started, and then the author switches to a completely different topic and never comes back to conclude the previous section.

I haven‘t even finished it yet, but I‘m already laughing and crying. I was 10 when 9/11 happened, and I feel woefully uneducated about the war that followed. I am 64 pages in & this book has already taught me much I didn‘t know.

I just finished listening to the audio book of 'Horse Soldiers', which the recent film '12 Strong' was based on. It tells the true story of the American special forces who rode horses into Afghanistan to face off against the Taliban. Going in I knew next to nothing about this event, and while the writing was ridiculously over-descriptive at times, I still found the book fascinating. Highly recommend as the conflict in Afghanistan is ongoing.

Spending the evening reading because snow... 😐 Found this book at the library the other day. I like horses and modern military history so this seems like a win-win to me. (I like the first 13 pages.)

I'm not usually a fan of movie covers but I made an exception. Aaaaand I broke my no buying new books rule. Airports don't count though right?

Sleepswithbooks @bookishbitch - There are no rules in airports 🙃 7y
