Who could have suspected that the exciting stag party for the groom would be the prelude to the murder of his close friend Charlie Hatton? Wexford is a lot mellower in the later books than he is here even though his age isn't that different.

My first Ruth Rendell. Do you like her books?

Autumnlong I love her! But I find that I‘m a bigger fan of her Barbara Vine or stand alone novels. I‘m also not the biggest fan of detective fiction & am personally more into the dark psychology and wayward mindscape genre, so I‘m not the best judge in this instance! Hope you enjoy it (: 6y

I‘m so tired right now ? I just want to read something light and entertaining, so after finish reading the Silent Girl this will be my picks. Four Agatha Christie‘s new books, my first Ruth Rendell, and José Rodrigues dos Santos - portuguese Dan Brown; the writing is not reading excellent, but it does the work ??‍♀️

I enjoyed the mystery part of this - I didn't know who did it until the very end. Inspector Wexford's view on women, though...well, it leaves room for improvement. However, I would probably pick up another book by Rendell.
