#AnglophileApril Day 25: #DontGoBreakingMyHeart reminded me of this strange Italian novel about a young bride left on her own. There is a cohesion somewhere in the end that provided some comprehensibility, but that is not, I suppose what the novel aimed to do anyway. Wow, what an odd, compelling book this was. I rate basically everything I read a pick, but I truly can‘t imagine recommending this to anyone (though it was rec‘d to me by an old college roommate). Features a bizarre third-person narrative that frequently and seamlessly shifts to first-person as many different characters including the author himself, a heaping dose of magical realism, and artful depiction of courtship, seduction, and love.

I have no idea what I just read... It's pretty and weird and surprising. Mostly weird. I liked it. It definitely has me thinking and wanting to read more by Baricco. Has anyone else read this or others by this author?

Our last lunch in Milan is at Pizzeria Starita where we had their signature pistacchio mortadella pizza and their angioletti dolci for dessert. Not to forget the espresso, of course, to be taken in one gulp for maximum effect. :)

So this is a new-to-us dessert: millefoglie classica. Reminded me just a wee bit of our refrigerated mango float in the Philippines, but this Milanese dessert is glorious - but please don't ask me what's inside, as I wouldn't know. Hehhee. Paired with espresso, it is divine.

What can a girl do when bookstores find her everywhere she goes? GatheringBooks in Milan. My first pimpuccino (cappuccino con nutella). It tastes as good as it looks and sounds.

Is there a better feeling than beginning the first chapter of a new book with a warm cup of tea? I think not. About to start The Young Bride by Alessandro Baricco.
