Tree of Treasures
Tree of Treasures: A Life in Ornaments | Bonnie Mackay
6 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
A beautifully illustrated look at Christmas ornaments and the memories they hold on our trees First highlighted in the New York Times, Bonnie Mackays annual Christmas tree showcases a lifetime collecting almost 3,000 ornaments. Now, through beautiful photography and illuminating vignettes, Tree of Treasures shares the heartfelt stories behind a hundred of those cherished possessions, whether its the story of a family member, like Mackays grandfather, a well-known vaudeville performer; long-held relationships with friends and colleagues in the international community of Christmas crafts makers; a memory of a beloved pet; and much more. From serene lace angels and vintage Santas, to exquisite glass-blown spheres and small silk purses, Tree of Treasures showcases ornaments both beautiful and well-loved, illuminating how ornaments, as we unpack and hang them each holiday season, tell the story of our lives. From the Hardcover edition.

Read this book yesterday and it helped me realize I don't need "traditional" ornaments to decorate my tree so I found things on my bookshelves to add. This is a crocheted manatee finger puppet. I also used two keychains, a paper dinosaur as the topper and an airplant holder to hold a wood carving.

My oldest Christmas ornament. Yep I turn 40; will be turning that age in about 7 weeks. My mom collected Christmas ornaments for me and my sister from the time we were born to the present day. When my sister and I moved out, my discovered that she had to go and buy herself Christmas ornaments.

melissajayne The reason was that while she made sure that my sister and I had Christmas ornaments when we moved out, she forgot to get herself ornaments, which we got in our stockings. 4y

This little gem of a book is a fascinating Christmas read. Formatted so that each ornament has written commentary on the left page and on the adjoining right page is a photograph of the ornament.A few of these go back generations. The author‘s memories & the history that each ornament carries provided me with a much needed, heart warming read this week. Many thanks to Christine for this lovely”treasure” of a book.

Christine Aww, yay!! So, so glad it has been bringing you some joy! ❤️ 5y
