A stunning, new novel by master storyteller Philip Reeve. Fever Crumb is a girl who has been adopted and raised by Dr. Crumb, a member of the order of Engineers, where she serves as apprentice. In a time and place where women are not seen as reasonable creatures, Fever is an anomaly, the only female to serve in the order. Soon though, she must say goodbye to Dr. Crumb-nearly the only person she's ever known-to assist archeologist Kit Solent on a top-secret project. As her work begins, Fever is plagued by memories that are not her own and Kit seems to have a particular interest in finding out what they are. Fever has also been (cont'd)

I rate this book a 7/10 because I enjoyed the main character and the setting. However, the order of some of the events were questionable but I loved how Fever acted towards everyone else, and how much she learned about her past and family.

Celebrants in robes and pointed hats whirling and clapping and chanting the name of some old-world prophet, "Hari, Hari! Hari Potter!"

I love how the world in the book is a unique in between for the modern world and the Mortal Engines world of traction cities. 40% through, so far I‘m intrigued by the story and feel for the characters (on both sides).

Fever Crumb is the first in a series of prequel books to Reeve's Mortal Emgines series. It sets out to show how Municipal Darwinism developed.

This book follows a young female protagonist through a time of turmoil, both personally and on a wider scale. Reeve uses references to "ancient" culture to harken to our current world, and throws delightful twists of humor into even the most serious situations.

Overall, a delightful book!

Well, I finished the Bardic Voices books, so now it's time to decide what to move on to next: Alvin Maker, Outlander, or Fever Crumb. Thoughts and suggestions welcome!

SpeculativeFemale @Foragingfantasy @RestlessFickleBookSlut @Ashley6 Outlander wins. Started it this afternoon. Alvin Maker will be next up. I need to get the last book so I can read them all anyway. 7y
Sace @SpeculativeFemale Enjoy Outlander! It's been over 20 years, but I loved it when I read it. 7y
Foragingfantasy @SpeculativeFemale if you have access to it, the audiobook narrated by Davina Porter is amazing. Enjoy it!! I wish I could read it again for the first time. ❤️ 7y

The heap, it grew. And Powell's will only take the heap in the back, so??? Probably goodwill.

silentrequiem If you are okay with mailing it, I'd be interested in the Movies in 15 Minutes book. I can paypal you money. 7y
annamatopoetry @silentrequiem oh, no need to pay, I got it used for almost nothing. Plus I owe you a few bucks. I'll just ship it with the cheapest option. 7y
silentrequiem @annamatopoetry Thanks! I wanted to read it but not give her money iykwim 7y

silentrequiem @annamatopoetry Though looking her up, I may have gotten her confused with Cassandra Clare... 7y
annamatopoetry @silentrequiem I thought I was the only person on the internet to remember what a dick CC was! But no, not the same person, hard to get a hold of book, because old. 7y
silentrequiem @annamatopoetry I refuse to read CC. I don't remember everything that happened but I get an icky feeling when I see her name. I now wish I hadn't gotten her and Jones mixed up in my head. Jones looks like she's still cool. 7y
annamatopoetry @silentrequiem ok, book mailed, from the post office this time, and I saw them put the postage on it. Media mail tho, so it might take a while. 7y
silentrequiem @annamatopoetry Thank you! Did you ever go complain to the shipping place? 7y
annamatopoetry @silentrequiem I did, but since it didn't go through their computer (I wrote the address on myself and just paid for shipping), they don't have a log and I didn't have the receipt. They apologized etc, but that's really all. 7y
