I‘m so disappointed in this book! It had so much potential but...
-Not enough world building to help you believe the impossible
-Some things are urgent for no reason while urgent things are ignored for pointless musings
-Immature, undeveloped characters

Merethebookgal Yeah, I felt like there was a lot of potential there but it wasn‘t executed well. Too bad! 3w

About 60% through but losing steam. The characters and story don‘t feel genuine. The story moved along to quickly, he‘s too perfect and she‘s too cynical. I didn‘t get a chance to understand and care about them before the conflict began...

I had the honor to visit Arthurdale and have lunch with a homesteader that moved from Scott‘s Run. He told me this story before I read it in her words:

‘A child had a rabbit as a pet, and an older child said rather mockingly as the small boy brought out his pet to show me, “He says he won‘t let us kill it to eat when it grows up, but we will see about that.”

She made sure no one ate that rabbit!

Hoopiefoot I drive past this whenever I visit my family but have never visited. It sounds amazing—clearly I need to make time for it one of these days! 7mo
Lchnessmnstr It‘s worth a stop! I‘ve lived very close to it for decades but had no idea it was there or the history between the 2 communities. 7mo

It‘s interesting to see how the comic differs from the show! I can see why some of these changes were made. I didn‘t realize there was such a strong connection to the Archie comics!

I read this on Comixology but disappointed to see that new issues aren‘t available. 😞 I feel like this platform is just a tease.

Anyone have recommendations for their comic reading needs?

Blockade Billy | Stephen King
Pickpick

While some may read just another story with a murder, I live Stephen King‘s ongoing conclusions that evil is spawned from real world problems and desperation. It may take the form of supernatural occurrences in some of his novels but the root is always a social commentary on the world we live in and how we treat each other.

Three years ago we lost my grandmother-in-law, in a moment of reflection I wrote this poem to all my lost grandmothers. I‘ve been so lucky to have such wonderful, strong female mentors in my life. I‘m even luckier to still have 2 grandmothers with me everyday.

‘Most likely they told her a whole lot of damned things she wasn't allowed to do, for a range of different reasons. But she damned well did them all the same. A few years after she was born they were still telling girls they couldn't vote in the bleeding elections, but now the girls do it all the same. That's damned well how you stand up to bastards who tell you what you can and and't do. You bloody do those things all the bloody same.‘

blurb

Though the story is told through the eyes of an almost 8 year old, you learn a lot about granny‘s past, adult lift through the current events that unfold. I like the slow reveal and complexity of the characters!
