Martin Fierro, largo poema narrativo en octosilabos, culminacion de la literatura gauchesca, es un clasico que pervive en la tradicion oral, no solo en Argentina, sino en todo el ambito cultural hispanico. Constituye la exaltacion con tintes epicos de la figura del gaucho, rebelde y pendenciero, payador y proscrito, verdadero centro de este tipo de literatura popular que reclamaba su independencia de modelos a traves de ahondar en el folclore autoctono de la Pampa.

A protest poem on behalf of the gaucho way of life, this epic explores the life of a gaucho after years of abuse and neglect. Considered one of the most influential pieces for Argentina, I am glad I had a chance to read it.
