So, what do you want me to say? The story hooked me and I kept reading; although skipping over a lot of the slower parts. What I ultimately missed was the feeling of horror of alien (without that it was more of a superhero story). But I kept reading and was looking for sequel—so it was at least that good :-)
More than everything I loved about this book was I believed that this was probably a realistic view of how the universe looks like. Was is the next level of existence after conscious individuals? Maybe a hive mind, but what after that? After a few billion years of existence some cultures might transcend. Kind of reminded me of Asimov‘s ‘Last Question‘
Loved that book! From the premise, through implications to the final. This is a must read if you liked black mirror.
Read The Plague in college and I was impressed—somehow intrigued with existentialism. Now, I‘m developing a deeper understanding of the abilities of Camus to capture the reality of human reaction when givens are taken away. Still, comparison is always relative.
Not sure what really drew me in, maybe the thought of Mars vs Earth as cold-war opponents vs some idealistic picture of ‘we‘re all friends in future. However, what kept me in the series is the realistic picture of future. Yes, there is this Alien gate, but everything is about humanity at its best and worst. A real picture of who we are, on the background of deep soace.
The story plays in a pretty realistic setting of the future. Interstellar travel is possible, but impractical beyond Mars and the asteroids beyond. Humanity has the same quarrels as always, when a found brings it at the border of an interstellar war.
Love the series—got all books so far and waiting for the next one coming out!
Honestly, I‘m kind of divided. Loved the story, but that might be just because I‘m a Star Wars kid. Thrawn‘s character could have benefited from some throwbacks and character ark. I‘d love to read more about the Chiss Ascendancy though.
Did you ever sit in a chair at the hairdresser with a mirror in front and one behind you, eternally reflecting your head. Dark Matter takes that feeling to the next level. And then again it, who has never wondered what would have happened if we you had decided differently back then? A fest moving thriller/romance/Sci-Fi novel worth every word.
This is a great novel and a quick read. I love the idea of the a woman reaching out to a rockstar, actually meet him and his band members and stirring up her marriage. I had expected a standard romance story and was surprised to find a deepness in the characters I haven't expected.

inventive talent, but also with our understanding of
democracy and our efforts to perfect the system. "

"Max u Moritz sy so gselle..." Childhood memories #maxandmoritz #swissgerman #berndeutsch
"I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong hills." Out of Africa conveys a romantic picture of Africa and at the same time reminds us of why the continent struggles.
I already liked the first book Untamed, but the second book Fragmented blows me away. I couldn't put it away until I was done, leaving me breathless. The author takes you through a dystopian world with the eyes of a young girl, giving you almost no time to rest until she hits you in the end. The only bad thing I can say is that we'll have to wait for book 3.
"The importance of keeping the pigs in good health was all too obvious. So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and the windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs alone."
"Tomorrow, I‘ll think of some way to get him back. After all, tomorrow is another day"
This book is actually a collection of four novellas, each different and wonderful on its own. I love 'Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption' (I have actually Morgan Freeman's voice in my head when I read it) most, followed by 'Stand by Me'!
“He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish."
I liked the story. It is neatly written and has an interesting story arch. I would like to get the other books. HOWEVER, it has no ending. It leaves you hanging and none of the lose ends are tied up. I don't like that at all and I think it will prevent me from buying other books in the series.
Going to Newtown CT book sale in two weeks. Looking for som Philip K. Dick stories #excited #booksalesarefun 😎🤓
Awesome idea, most of us know how Mae feels and how she gets dragged in. The story starts great, but the end doesn't the do the theme justice.
Wonderful story that blew my mind. I couldn't put it away. Alien live is with all likelihood not human-like...
I started reading it, but he lost me with side stories and background info. I love the story, but it was too much distraction from the main plot for me.
Have you ever thought about how flying was in the early days? Follow a mail pilot during a storm and getting lost - it took a bunch of brave men to accomplish the human dream of flying. It's a short read, but it will stay with you for a long time.
What a wonderful view on good old Europe. Loved the story - still love it.
Every time I read this story it gets me more. It is simply powerful - human existence at its maximum.
What a wonderful book! It was made for book lovers and at the same time it is a warning... but no spoilers here.
I love Mitch Albom's stories with their touch of magic. It always gives me the feeling that there is more to life than we can see.
Without having been in Africa, I was able to smell the jungle, feel the pressure of the heat and desperation of loneliness. I officially love this book.
Didn't convince me as much as Lotr - maybe I should have read it first.
There are two masterpieces of prison breaks and this book is one of it. Simply love it!
The origin of the gaucho myth - pretty dense though.
"...kipple reproduces itself. For instance, if you go to bed leaving any kipple around your apartment, when you wake up the next morning there's twice as much of it."
It took me several attempts to read it. It is super dense. GGM wrote it right after One hundred years of solitude and he said that it is his most elaborated book. He wanted to write something different. Still, it contains the same magic, but with a sarcastic, sometimes cynical, twist.
First I watched the movie, but the book is so much better (What an insight, I know).
I simply love this book! It felt as if I was there, in Macondo, spending the days with the Buendias, sharing their fortunes and suffering with them in their misfortune.
Who wants to live forever? Do you actually understand forever? I loved the story and I admit I found it pretty shocking. Btw - bureaucracy can be hell, but bureaucracy in hell is hilarious.
