Blood Defense | Marcia Clark
First in a new series from bestselling author and famed prosecutor Marcia Clark, a terrific writer and storyteller (James Patterson).Samantha Brinkman, an ambitious, hard-charging Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, is struggling to make a name for herself and to drag her fledgling practice into the big leagues. Sam lands a high-profile double-murder case in which one of the victims is a beloved TV star and the defendant is a decorated veteran LAPD detective. It promises to be exactly the kind of media sensation that would establish her as a heavy hitter in the world of criminal law.Though Sam has doubts about his innocence, she and her two associates (her closest childhood friend and a brilliant ex-con) take the case. Notorious for living by her own rules and fearlessly breaking everyone else s Samantha pulls out all the stops in her quest to uncover evidence that will clear the detective. But when a shocking secret at the core of the case shatters her personal world, Sam realizes that not only has her client been playing her, he might be one of the most dangerous sociopaths she s ever encountered."

I picked this one out months ago but only just now read it! I knew since it was written by a lawyer, it would have some good insight on the different procedures that go on behind the scenes of a case.

I did enjoy the book, but one thing that annoyed me was the lingo. I felt the author was trying too hard to sound cool. At one point the protagonist calls a helicopter a ‘ghetto bird‘. Is that even used anymore? Also, too many similes.

A fun read that put me in the mind of a slightly more academic Stephanie Plum. I already purchased the second book in the Samantha Brinkman series and pre-ordered the third. I loved Samantha and her ragtag legal team, and I'm anxious to see if and how that cast expands through the next books. Also thought it was interesting that Clark made her protagonist a defense attorney instead of a prosecutor.

Dragon Sounds interesting, adding it to my stack ! 7y
Nuwanda @Dragon I ended up reading it because it filled a square in my library's book bingo challenge; I think I'll be reading more legal thrillers, at least by Marcia Clark, in the future! 7y

Finished this today, I've written 8 pages of notes for a review and all I can say is that it's such a good story! I've enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would and it's taken me out of the long, ridiculous slump that I've been in recently. I now want to read rather than watch random stuff on Sky. I'm pumped to get through the 96 books I need to read by the end of this year! I doubt I'll do it but I'm going to give it a shot!

??? $2.00 Amazon ebook sale! I really like Marcia Clark's new series (she obviously knows the law) which reads like a detective series but the MC is a struggling defense attorney. It reminds me of Scandal and HTGAWM in that even the "good guys" aren't.

My first Clark, and it's worth noting I am very very picky about legal thrillers. This one had too much plot for my taste. You barely had time to catch your breath. I also dislike books about defense attorneys who bend the law. That said, at least you know Clark gets the courtroom stuff right. I would love something with more court, more strategy, more character, more depth, but this one feels more about quick thrills.

If you're a fan of mystery/crime this was one of the best I've read bc of something I can't reveal ;) Great mystery: detective accused of murdering two women, one a tv star so the media is all over it. 💙 the MC Samantha a defense attorney trying to keep her practice afloat-along with her childhood friend &criminal turned investigator. Full of twists & reveals & the first ever epilogue I liked! Really looking forward to the next one in the series.

I struggled to review this book. I decided to recommend it because I started reading it to kill time at the hairdressers and it sucked me in until i had to finish it. However, i didn't like the ending but that's my preference. But if you like your heroes to have an edge--give this book a try!

I love Marcia Clark's novels (seriously--don't let the famous name make you think Clark can't write. She can WRITE.) so I was excited to dive into this new first in a series. A TV starlet is murdered, and even the defendant's lawyer thinks he might be guilty. It's fast paced and excellent.

Matilda I didn't know she wrote crime fic! Just read. 9y
MyBookLife Is it a series or are they standalones? (What's her first book named?) 9y

Just started reading this because of her involvement in The People vs OJ. I like that it's set in Hollywood and involved the entertainment industry. Not the most complex writing style but it's a fast read
