This is a heart wrenching memoir. Kate married her high school sweetheart, both went into the military, and both were stationed in Iraq in 2003-2004 when the helicopter he was flying went down. It tells a small town love story and provides a picture of everyday military life as a woman and a wife. Although I liked it and feel it is an important perspective, it was not a compelling, can't put it down read for me.

I'm finally home from a long day at school that included chaperoning for and helping clean up after a junior high dance. It's definitely #LitsyPartyofOne time.

I started this book about a military couple the other day, and this paragraph about where they grew up seems an appropriate description of rural Missouri, "where everyone waves when they drive by, whether they know you or not. If you don't like waving back, don't come to Macon."

I'm just getting started on this memoir of a Missouri woman published in 2006. She married her high school sweetheart and they became a military couple for whom being together often just meant being stationed in the same country.
