Written by one of the lost boys of Sudan. John comes from a village in South Sudan and he has to run away when northerners attack. His story is filled with hardship and pain. It is also a story of overcoming many things in life against all odds. Starting school for the first time at the age 18 in a foreign country is not what most of us are used to. Easy and short read. Thumbs up! Worth a read! #readingtheworld #SouthSudan

I really enjoyed this ❤ it was easy to read, I felt like John Dau was sitting in the room with me telling his story, stopping to reflect and wonder, every now and then. I learned a bit more about Sudan, and a lot more about the lost boys, and though it was at times heartbreaking, it was also encouraging to read how Dau found hope and strength. #bookspinbonanza #readingtheworld

Lcsmcat I might have to check this out. Two I have read about that situation (and know some of the “lost boys” in one of them) are 4y
HannaPolkadots @Lcsmcat do you recommend them? I have What is the What on my TBR, but the other one I had never heard of...🙈 4y
Lcsmcat @HannaPolkadots I absolutely recommend them! My book group in Utah read What is the What and then had a Sudanese refugee come talk to us about his experiences. They are both very powerful reads. 4y

Finally got started on #bookspinbonanza nr.3, which allows me to tick off South Sudan in my attempt to read the world. Now I have read 20% of the world, and as you can see on my map, I really need to work on Africa #readingtheworld Am also superembarrased that I have yet to check Bolivia ❤☺🙈
@TheAromaofBooks

Tove_Reads Africa is easy. I have now read one from every single African country. Also read South Sudan this week 😊 I am almost at the end of my journey, but have problems finding books from a few countries. 4y
HannaPolkadots @Tove_Reads 👏👏👏 I agree, usually the trouble isn't finding books, but rather finding the time to read them and all the other books I discover along the way 😅🤣 4y
TheAromaofBooks Wow that's amazing progress!!! How long have you been working on this? 4y

HannaPolkadots @TheAromaofBooks I haven't really been working on it, I just downloaded the map and marked all the countries I could remember having read books from, and now I'm trying to focus (some) of my reading into finishing reading the world. So I celebrated reaching 20% by ordering 5 books from five countries I haven't read 😀 4y
TheAromaofBooks I love it!!! 4y
Tove_Reads I just read three within 24 hours, because National Emergency Library closes on Tuesday, and I can‘t find books from these three countries elsewhere. 4y
Tove_Reads @TheAromaofBooks I‘m nearly done with my challenge. I‘ve done it in alphabetical order, and I haven‘t got many letters left. 4y
HannaPolkadots @Tove_Reads do you have a recommendation for Bolivia? 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Tove_Reads - Wow, alphabetically! That seems even more challenging! 4y
Tove_Reads @TheAromaofBooks It is, but I wanted it that way! 4y
