Another year down of teaching this one! Still not loving the sci-fi aspects of it, but it‘s amazing to see how engaging it is for my 7th graders.

A young adult historical/fantasy hybrid about a young slave (47) chosen by the spirits to be a leader for his people and for the world. First lesson he needs to learn is to live free and not as a slave. Great historical details included in a magical folk-tale setting.
