The Wisdom of the Shire
The Wisdom of the Shire: A Short Guide to a Long and Happy Life | Mr. Noble Smith
8 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
In The Wisdom of the Shire, Noble Smith sheds a light on the life-changing ideas tucked away inside the classic works of J. R. R. Tolkien and his most beloved creationthe stouthearted Hobbits. How can simple pleasures such as gardening, taking long walks, and eating delicious meals with friends make you significantly happier? Why is the act of giving presents on your birthday instead of getting them such a revolutionary idea? What should you do when dealing with the Gollum in your life? And how can we carry the burden of our own "magic ring of power" without becoming devoured by it? The Wisdom of the Shire holds the answers to these and more of life's essential questions.

This was a mood read choice on Libby, and also chosen to fill my bookclub‘s December topic: Feels Like Home. My dad is a middle earth fan, so I was brought up on the books and the animated movies.

This is kind of a combination self help and reflection on the books. Mostly the author talks about a characteristic of the hobbits or the shire, then talks about how our lives would profit from trying to promote that in our lives and world. I liked it!

I read this and knew I'm a hobbit. The sentiments and near advice in this book is eye opening and challenging on society we live in today. I recommend it to anyone who wants something more original out of life. I must read it again and live richly.
