Could not put the tagged book down!!!! So good!!! All the characters drove me nuts because that‘s had NO common sense. The writing was a steady flow that kept me turning the page to see what dumb decision they‘d make next. Great ending. If you like plot and action this book is not for you. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Saturday night chips & onion dip. I loved this book so much and was shocked to find so many negative reviews. I loved everything that the haters hated. Long-winded tangents, long, winding story before getting to the action, details about history & politics. And I loved all the quirky characters.

Srsly? I‘m the first to post about this book? It‘s one of those books where people complain that “nothing ever happens” although something major DOES HAPPEN but the book is a study of how that major event shapes the characters lives. I typically enjoy those kind of books but this one was a bit of a slogfest for me. But it was short so I got through it quickly.

The title of this book is also the name of a fictional cooking competition TV show. Like Chopped. The cooking competition show part was really spot on if you‘re a fan of those shows like I am. This was my first time reading #MMromance The sex is pretty explicit so be forewarned, but I loved these characters. Nate, Zachary & Carmen, BFFs forever! A sequel is in the works. #cooking #cookingcompetition

Jess7 Love, LOVE, LOOOOOOOOVE this book! 1y
Jinjer @Jess7 I‘m not that far into it but my bookmark fell out so now I have to figure out what page I was on. 😡 1y
Jinjer @Jess7 well...I didn‘t like it and I knew who Killer was right away.😡 1y
Jess7 Well, that stinks. I read this ages ago. I definitely think it all depends on how many books in this genre you have read whenever read it. I might feel differently now than I did back then bc I‘ve read a lot of thrillers. I think I suspected the killer mid way through but I still loved it. Are you watching the series 1y
Jinjer @Jess7 I read the book specifically for the series. Then I got to the pigs and inquired about whether the plight of those poor pigs are featured in the series. Yes, so I can‘t watch. I‘d be traumatized. 😂😂🐖 🐷 1y

The Painted Bird | Jerzy Kosinski
post image

It‘s 1939 in Eastern Europe. A 6-yo “Gypsy” boy has been separated from his parents. The white, superstitious peasants in the village where he was sent to be kept safe from the Nazis believe he is possessed by an evil spirit and that he can cast spells on them if they look him in the eye. They avoid him, run from him, and turn dogs loose on him.

Like the author, I really wanted to punch these men in the face the way they treat women. 😡

The author lived in the house with this family so we learn what daily life is like for them. Made my problems and complaints seem pretty ridiculous. Also made me really grateful for modern conveniences such as air conditioning, hot running water, washing machines, and refrigerators.

Read this book if you‘re interested in daily lives of real people.

Ever started a book on Kindle and then said “This book is so good I have to get the real book”? That just happened to me with Painted Bird. And when I say the book is “good” I don‘t mean a feel-good story. This book is non-stop monstrous brutality. It‘s no pleasure to read but I‘m rooting for this kid. I tend to read ebooks too fast so I want a physical book in my hands.

RIP Kris Nelson (4/26/18) - The cover is a painting she did of her daughter Tracy‘s wedding on Catalina Island. Some people were fans of her husband, Ricky Nelson or her in-laws Ozzie & Harriet, or her brother, actor Mark Harmon. I was a fan of Tracy (Square Pegs & Father Dowling) & twin sons with long blonde hair in a band called Nelson. Always wanted to read this beautiful book about her life & illustrated with her artwork. Glad Amazon had one.

This book is so detailed and descriptive I want to read every chapter twice.

For the “nothing ever happens” readers, this book is not for you!!!

This book is for readers who live for dialogue & details & want to know what everyone is wearing, doing, and what they are for breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, tea, supper & snacks. This book is also for those who like philosophical discussions.

This book is different. Not the usual first person account of living in the woods. More a study into WHY and trying to understand loneliness, and solitude (voluntary vs forced).

I totally agree with the grand insight Chris Knight said he came out of the wild with, but I you‘ll have to read the book to learn what that is.

Interesting quote “Silence is not opposite of sound, it is another world altogether.”
