#DynamicDs #DoubleLetterTitle An all time favorite!
This is a slow, quiet character study of a man who is supposed to be moving houses but cannot seem to make himself. The professor contemplates his life and how he got to where he is. I thought it was interesting, but maybe a bit too scattered I really enjoyed the bits about his time excavating Native areas in New Mexico but thought the jump from that to other topics was too abrasive.
Still enjoyed it, I always like Cather's writing
#Weeklyforecast trying to finish up the #WP25 this week, not sure I can make it! The tagged is my #doublespin for this month should finish it today
I started Chuck Tingle yesterday and I am obsessed, then going back to A Little Trickerie which I was excited for but which has proven not as easy to get started on.
Disappoint Me on my Kobo for Trans Awareness Readathon
Wow, what amazingly beautiful prose! Has that very southern story telling tradition vibe about it. I‘m am going to pick it up in print when I find it to read the other stories in this edition.
I have a complicated relationship with Williamsburg. My sister went to college there, and I was determined to go anywhere else (contrary teenager syndrome) but ended up there anyway. As a #longtimefed I sent colleagues all over the world but never traveled myself, for the first 10+ years.
Then my first work trip was to…Williamsburg! My very last work trip was to nearby Chesapeake, to learn more about processing travel reservations and vouchers.⬇️
3.5 Stars • Frank O'Hara's "Selected Poems" is all about capturing life's moments as they happen, especially in New York City. His poems are like personal chats or diary entries, mixing everyday life with art and culture. He writes about things like having lunch or hearing about Billie Holiday's death, making everyday stuff seem poetic. ⬇️
Things I love:
-The pacing leaves plenty of room for emotions to develop.
-The perspective shows both the frustration of the US medical system and the wonder we can access when knocked out of our unconscious narratives.
-The writing, beautiful without being sappy.
Things that don't quite work:
-The extended treatises on poetry and music go on too long for my taste.
-The meticulous detail, which gets tedious.
Soft pick for a #tob25 longlist title
