This book gives children or young readers a first hand account of the efforts to save one of the world's rarest and unusual birds the kakapo.

This book , published in 2010 was a different read than others I have read. All the other books I have read were fun children books with illustrations while this book was very informative with paragraphs and real pictures. Was interesting but hard to stay engaged.

I believe the children would love to have this book in the classroom. One because it covers an animal and almost all children love animals. but two the photographs are beautiful throughout showing many colors and textures.

Kakapo Rescue by Sy Montgomery published in 2010 is a nice nonfiction book. It covers the strangest parrot in the world and how it almost went extinct. It also covers the habitat of the Kakapo itself.

This book used real, beautiful images to enhance the story of these precious creatures.

This nonfiction story takes place on the remote Codfish Island off the coats on New Zealand. This area is home to 91 of the last kakapo parrots on earth. These beautiful birds are the largest most unusual parrots on earth. Their habitats have become invaded by predators introduced by humans.

I enjoyed learning from this book about the Kakapo, a flightless, endangered parrot living only in New Zealand, and about the conservation work being done to save this bird from extinction. (Also, I was happy to learn from the Kakapo Recovery website that there are now 151 Kakapo in existence, as at the end of Kakapo Rescue it is stated that there were only 91.)

Kakapo is a flightless parrot that only lives on one remote island in New Zealand. They are very endangered and the author spent time with the scientists who are trying to save them. A little lighter reading for my dinner break. I love Sy Montgomery's adult books so this one for kids should be good
