Better than the first installment. The characters seem better-developed and more realistic (except from André who is way too much of a dream boat) and the sleuthing adds dimension to the story and world-building. Not a masterpiece, but a pretty good read — a hint of Anita Blake, a pinch of Stephanie Plum (though Gabrielle could definitely use more self-irony).
3 1/2 stars.
