My First Murder
My First Murder | Leena Lehtolainen
1 post | 2 read
Maria Kallio has just been assigned her first murder investigation. To prove to herself and her squad that she has what it takes to be a detective, she'll have to solve the death of Tommi Peltonen. Found floating facedown at the water's edge of his Helsinki villa, Tommi had invited his choir group to spend a weekend at his retreat. But beneath the choir's seemingly tight-knit bonds seethed bitter passion and jealousy. As Maria sets out to determine the difference between friends and foes, she uncovers the victim's unsavory past - and motives for all seven suspects. Now it's up to her to untangle a complex set of clues before the killer strikes again.

This one is the first in a popular series. Unfortunately my fave Finnish books have not been translate into English, just as I feared @Andrew65

Andrew65 I remember reading some of the Moomintroll books by Tove Jansson many(!) years ago. Will be interested to search out The Summer book, along with the others. When I was researching Finnish books translations were a big problem. 7y
Andrew65 Thank you 👏👍🙌😊 @Tove_Reads 7y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 yes, it‘s one of the hardest languages to learn, so no foreign editors or publishers read the books in the original language, if it‘s Finnish. Swedish is a lot easier. I can read all the main Nordic languages, and all the others are related, so it‘s easier to get books from these countries on foreign markets. 7y

Dulcinella Which is your favourite? Sometimes they‘re translated in dutch sooner than in English 7y
Tove_Reads @Dulcinella Taavi Soininvaara is my fave, maybe they‘ve translated his works to Dutch? I think it‘s faster, because Germans are crazy about Finnish lit, and they have many books translated. If you like dystopia then Memory of Water could be a good choice. The Summer Book is Good. Pekka Hiltunen is good, but have not read them translated. 7y
Dulcinella @Tove_Reads In german indeed. Will have to wait:-) Don‘t like to read too much german, cause I‘m not good enough at it and I miss things. Thanks for the tips 7y
