I didn‘t count these in my midyear ratings because they feel incomparable. But I‘m deeply in love and so glad I finally checked them out! They‘ll be in the upper echelon of my 2025 favorites, for sure.

This book is such a lovely way to begin my summer reading. 5/5⭐️ It‘s also the start of a challenge I‘ve set for myself, my #100DayProject to mark the beginning of my endless vacation, aka forever freedom, aka Renaissance years, aka retirement! My 3 rules are that I own the book, that I journal about it, and that I post daily (to keep me honest 😅). My goal is to read 50 books in 100 days, which is a lofty goal for me!🤞🏽

Beautifully descriptive vignettes of summer time on an island. While Sophia drove me crazy with her frequent crying and protestations, this shows a loving bond between grandmother and granddaughter. A nice escape and perfect for #MidsummerSolace #Naturalitsy #LitSolace #192025 #1972
This book is a balm for the soul. Calm, quiet, relaxing, filled with love. It was a perfect choice for #Naturalitsy #MidsummerSolace , as it really did provide solace for me in these stressful times. Escapism at its best. @AllDebooks @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit #LitSolace

A different sort of "summer read", one I enjoyed immensely. Tove Jansson is one of those authors I've known about forever but had never read (not even the Moomins, which aren't as well known in the US as Europe). I knew that she was fascinated by America's unique (to put it nicely) attitude toward aging and the elderly, and she really captured the pathos of being abandoned in "paradise" with insight and gentle humor.
IIRC, the chronology is kind of odd. I started with Midwinter too and it was a great choice for me as a child 1d
