Going to start reading this book set in Finland for part of my read around the world challenge. (I‘m also back to reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman as it‘s finally back in from the library…that‘s been one hell of a slow read!)
#SchoolSpirit Day 14: Only six days after our #Homecoming from Paris - now traveling again in a few hours to Moominland. Naturally, I brought these books with me.
A quick, charming read, whose pint-sized protagonist reminded me of my granddaughter when she‘s cranky. Lovely descriptive writing. A good farewell to summer and my #doublespin for this month.
At times this book felt both obtuse and a little smug, I hate to say; I mean, who could've guessed that living in a place with some of the world's best air quality, bike-able cities, generous social supports, and an abundance of green spaces would lead to better physical and mental health?! I wanted to roll my eyes at times, but also, my kingdom for an invigorating daily cold swim followed by a steamy sauna! I'll take aspirational reading any day.
I really am loving this series. Looking forward to reading the latest book which was released this year. I do think these books tend to start out a little slow and get dragged out a bit in the middle then the ending is jam packed with action and everything happens super fast. This book had the best crime and twists yet. I thought the ending had great plot twists and the story was wrapped up perfectly. Onto Ghost Island now!
A book too cute not to buy while we were in Bath, England. I got it for #foodandlit #Finland in December @Catsandbooks
This was entertaining and wryly clever right up until the end. I want to read the rest of the trilogy now. And I also want to visit Finland. They have an odd, almost absurdist turn of mind there, I think I‘d like it 😊 If you are not familiar with Finnish quirkiness, try this trilogy, or a book in the genre of “Finnish weird.” That‘s a thing. Johanna Sinisalo is a good author to start with.
My baby boy, JuJuB passed on Friday (last week). I have been devastated, and am having such a hard time healing. I spend a lot of my time crying or just zoning out. The schoolwork has been difficult because I feel “eh“. Anyway, I wanted to give yall an update on my MIA status for a little bit. I am not sure how much reading I can focus on.
Thank y'all for your kindness.
