High Rise Stories
High Rise Stories: Voices from Chicago Public Housing | Audrey Petty
4 posts | 4 read | 7 to read
In the gripping first-person accounts of High Rise Stories, former residents of Chicagos iconic public housing projects describe life in the now-demolished high-rises. These stories of community, displacement, and poverty in the wake of gentrification give voice to those who have long been ignored, but whose hopes and struggles exist firmly at the heart of our national identity.

This was my first book in the voice of witness collection, and what makes it really good isn't just the oral histories, which are valuable, but the excellent appendices which give context to the firsthand accounts. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more from this collection.
