and grew.
Big cat, bigger cat.“
“Days went by -- and months, too -- and the little cat grew
and grew
and grew.
Big cat, bigger cat.“
For a student who is dealing with the death of a pet at home, or a class pet, this would be a decent book to read. It explains how everyone becomes sad when the big cat is gone. This includes the family and the other cat. Then it shows an option for coping with that cat being gone. The solution in this story is to get a new cat for the now older black cat to play with.
“Big Cat, Little Cat“ a Caldecott Honor Book. This book is written and illustrated by Elisha Cooper. The images in this book are very interesting. The entire book is black and white. One cat is white, and the new kitten is black. It shows them playing together and more. One day the older cat is gone and now the black cat is fully grown. The family gets a new kitten that is white, almost filling the space of the cat that is now gone.
“Until the older cat got older and one day he had to go away... and he didn't come back.“ This quote mad me really sad because I was so invested in the relationship between the white cat and the black cat.
I think that this book would be good for maybe a child who had lost a pet but I also think that it is quite sad even for that situation. This picture book has a lot of adult themes which should be thought about before reading it to a classroom.

This was a sad book about the life of a black cat and white cat and eventually the white cat passes. Then one day a new cat comes and at the black cat shows the new cat how to be. This story touches how it may feel to lose a pet. This can be used at a specific time in the classroom if a student is going through this. Big Cat, Little Cat also touches on how someone older can teach someone younger how to do things.

“The cat showed the new cat what to do. When to eat, when to drink, where to go, how to be, when to rest.”
This would be a good book to use in the classroom if someone in the class has a pet pass away.
Big Cat, little cat by Elisha Cooper, 2017. Caldecott Honor Award Winning Book. This picture book is fantastic for learning in a fun way about animals and the life cycle. The readers can easily follow along because of the brief phrases. The story of the book is about two cats that grew up together before the big cat left one day and never returned. The cat that was abandoned will soon be joined by a new cat, and everyone will be happy once again.
This Caldecott honor book would be great for PR. The short sentences makes it easy for partners to read every other line. This precious (RF) story is about an older cat who gets a new kitty sibling who he teaches everything too, until one day the older cat passes on & leaves the younger cat with his wisdom to share with future siblings down the road. (Not going to lie, this book made me tear up... lol)
This book won a Caldecott Honor award for its interesting illustrations. They are nothing too crazy, but their beauty is in the simplicity that draws your attention. The images also really animate the easy to follow text.
I would use this in my future classroom because it is incredibly cute and really easy to follow along with. It is simple, but not too simple to where the children would be disengaged.
“The cat showed the new cat what to do, when to eat, when to drink...“
“The cat showed the new cat what to do, when to eat, when to drink...“ I thought this was a cute quote that shows how the big cat takes the new little cat under his wing.

I think this is a great book for children who are just beginning to read on their own. The pictures, language, and storyline are very simple, allowing children to focus on the words they are reading. Because it is so simple, children will likely want to read this book over and over again!
“Big Cat, Little Cat“ by Elisha Cooper, 2017. Caldecott Honor Award. This is a very cute story about two cats becoming friends. The illustrations are very simple yet aesthetically pleasing. One cat is all white, while the other is all black, contrasting each other. The words and pictures are scattered all across the page, setting it apart from traditional picture books.
#AnglophileApril Day 18: This is a seemingly-simple story of a Big White Cat welcoming a tiny, tentative Black Cat to the household – showing him what to do, getting him essentially acclimatized to their new home with a #LetYouLoveMe vibe. There is grief, yes, as only fierce and true love brings – but it is part of what makes our days full .. and worth living. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-hvS
Until the day a new cat came. The cat showed the new cat what to do.
I‘ve never read this book but I thought it was super cute. It‘s definitely a feel good book and tells a very sad but truthful story of friendship. This could be used to if a child is upset about the death of a pet.
This book is very interesting because all of the illustrations are in black and white. There‘s multiple illustrations on every page and they take up the entire page. It‘s a very cute story of friendship.
This book did a wonderful job explaining the circle of life for young readers. I LOVED how the big cat explained what to do for the small cat, and then by the end the small cat had turned into the big cat. Fantastic simple illustrations throughout.
My big cat Thor (13 lbs) is actually the 3-year-old and my little cat Petunia (8 lbs) is the 4-year-old. Isn‘t it amazing how much we grow to love our fur babies?
This has quickly become one of my new favorite picture books. A simple story with simple illustrations (almost more scribble and lines than anything) somehow cut right to the heart. A story about life and renewal as well as dealing with loss. This will surely pull at your heart and be a good conversation starter with children learning about tough subjects
Sweet, simple story that deals with the circle of life, with cats. It is almost perfection. But there is one major thing that kept me from giving this five stars. Instead of saying the older cat died, the author says it went away and didn‘t come back. And then, that was hard until the day they got a new cat. So that definitely could have been worded better, even if I don‘t think the author meant to imply that the older kitty was replaceable.
A rare side by side size comparison of our big cat (2 y/o 17 lbs) and our little cat (12 y/o 9lbs). She (the little one) doesn‘t really like him, so I don‘t get too many of them together. #catsoflitsy

4⭐️ This is a cats life cycle in its simplest terms. It is sad but also happy. It‘s for when a beloved furry family member passes on.
