Nick Cave's novel is a bit much. It is like a Southern Gothic boilermaker. I would not widely recommend it, unless you are a big Nick Cave fan or have a taste for the morbid/black sense of humor. Read in Nov, it was one of the more singular reading experiences of the year. He's def. a better musician than novelist, but I am curious to read some of his other books.

Happy 65th Birthday to one of my favorite working musicians! I am seriously hard-pressed to think of a greater recent run of consecutive albums than the 3 studio albums he made with The Bad Seeds: Push the Sky Away, Skeleton Tree, Ghosteen. He has suffered great loss over the past few years & has continued to create incredible art to make sense of it & the world. Incredible.

A lil over 30 years ago I crawled into bed with this book at 6am having spent the night carousing with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Galway, Ireland. I read that first line, smiled to myself knowing I would love this book then got up and sat med-school exams. I wasn‘t wrong 🎤👨🏼‍⚕️

Grotesque, bibically epic, and beautifully lyrical- this novel is a *lengthy* reflection of Nick Cave's musical tone and subject matter. As such- I was completely engrossed. However; those with a weak stomach - especially concerning violence to animals- should probably give this one a hard pass.

Just found a great little bookshop on Little Collins St and picked this up for $5. SCORE. I have the hardcover back in NZ but am super happy to have found a cheap copy here.
