Other Oceans is second in the award-winning literary series, The Hook & Jill Saga. A mature re-imagining of the enduring world of Neverland, these novels deepen the characters created by J.M. Barrie, expanding Barries adult themes and developing Barries pirates, his Lost Boys, and his Indians, welcoming the adult audience back to Neverland. Other Oceans: Book Two of the Hook & Jill Saga is a pirate yarn woven for grown-ups, enriched with irony in its rendering of polite society. Jacket synopsis: Identify the weapon, and use it first. Such is the code of Captain James Hook, in this lyrical sequel to Hook & Jill. And this time, the turmoil begins not with The Boy, but with a girl. Ten days out of Neverbay, Hook and Jill capture a ships surgeon, pressing him to join the Roger. But Doctor Hanover is a gentleman, with a daughter to defend. When Red-Handed Jill shows him favor, his heart is taken prisoner, too. Hanover contrives to deliver Jill from the pirate king, and redeem her to societyas his wife. But Captain Hook is impossible to escape. Other rivals contend for Jills red hand, and Hook fights for supremacy with his skill and brilliance. When the doctors daughter draws Hooks eye, she emulates Jill, using feminine weapons to charm him. With no word of farewell, Hook vanishes, and Jill is a queen without a king. To hold Hooks power, she must come to terms with each of the dangerous men in her domain. When a challenger seizes command of the Roger and over Jill Hook and Jills dominion will be overthrown unless, as Hook has taught Jill to do, she can identify the weaponand wield it wickedly. Other Oceans is an unabashed study in loyalty, vibrant with the dynamics of power. From the pen of a masterful crafter, Book Two of the Hook & Jill Saga delivers all the exhilaration that a clash of wills, hearts, and fortune can arouse.

Red-Handed Jill‘s right hand is stained red from the blood of those she killed.

wanderinglynn Is this a Peter Pan retelling or Peter Pan-world book? I ask because in 2003 movie adaptation of Peter Pan based on the original play, Wendy calls herself Red-Handed Jill when telling the boys stories. Which comes from the original novel and play, where John was offered a position with the crew and wanted to be called Red-Handed Jack. 6y
CrowCAH @wanderinglynn I haven‘t yet read the original Peter Pan. But this is in a Peter Pan world book, more of an adult version. Wendy, the storyteller and mother to the Lost Boys, becomes Red-Handed Jill after killing people and joining forces with Cpt Hook; so this must have been the author‘s inspiration, from the play and novel. 6y

Starting this chunkster of a book.

It‘s been three years since the Tall Ship Celebration and I‘m hoping Andrea Jones is there, so I can buy the third book in the series!

The second book with Cpt. Hook and Jill, in Neverland! I even met Andrea Jones, twice!

alonnawilliams Looks good 😍 8y
CrowCAH @alonnawilliams the first book was pretty good, not a lot of focus on Peter Pan and the lost boys, so more enjoyable, more adultish. Need to read this book! 8y
