Paper Money | Ken Follett
8 posts | 10 read | 7 to read
An explosive novel of high finance and underworld villainy from Ken Follett, the grand master of international action and suspense. Crime, high finances, and journalism are interconnected in this early thriller by the author of On Wings of Eagles and Lie Down With Lions. In one suspenseful, action-packed day, fortunes change hands as an ambitious young reporter scrambles to crack the story. A suicidal junior minister, an avaricious tycoon, and a seasoned criminal with his team of tough guys all play their parts in a scheme that moves "paper money" around at a dizzying pace. From the Paperback edition.

A fast-paced, but quite dated financial crime novel. Easy, entertaining, but superficial.

Follett before he became THE Follett. Not a badly written book, but he‘s written so many great ones, and this does not live up to expectations. It‘s a short read for a Follett. Set during one day in London. A businessman, minister and journalist have something in common. Read the book to find out more 😃 I find the strong lead characters to be missing in this book, and that‘s one of the strengths in Follett‘s writing.

EadieB I agree with your review. 5y

This was originally written under a pseudonym, but then republished later under Ken Follet‘s name. Published in 1976 so feels a bit dated but then the situation they are talking about could happen today. Overall this was really just an okay book & not up to the standard, or as long, as most of his other books. Don‘t feel it was all developed, or his characters are developed as well as in his other books, and there are quite. Few characters too.

EadieB @Andrew I agree with your review! Not up to his later standards! I still have to read this one 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes I‘ve not read this one either, got behind on reading commitments due to the last few months. Not really had a break since February half-term and still at least five weeks to go, providing we don‘t have to open for key workers over the Summer Break. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I'm so tired of this pandemic. Not fair to you to put in all this time and take away your holidays! 5y

Andrew65 @EadieB Me too, last week had to be one of the busiest weeks ever. Working from getting up straight through till 10.00 each night. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 They need to put things on hold until September! 5y
Tove_Reads My least fave of his books, but to be fair, it was one of his first books. I wonder if will be good or not. Luckily we have the prequel to Pillars coming out in September! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Totally agree, will achieve nothing over next few weeks. 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Can‘t wait for the prequel. Agree, it is the least favourite book. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 It‘s a waste of time planning now as parents probably won‘t want to send their children at this time. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Only 9 of 48 Y6 planning to send them back fro week of 22 June. National target was 1st June but delayed things 3 weeks and will review situation on Thursday before a final decision. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Lots of planning to accommodate only 1/5 of the students. 5y
Andrew65 Exactly! Ratio of 2 adults to every 5 children! 5y

#PaperMoney #KenFollett

Early Follett book about high finance and crime. Not as good as his later books but a nice start to his career. Takes place during one action-packed day. The scheme moves “paper money” around at a dizzy pace. Interesting characters and plot but falls a little short in the suspense department. Looking forward to reading another of his books and recommend this book to those who like to read books with interesting characters.

I missed a few days, so I‘m just picking up where I left off.

Day 16: I‘m following the idea to post a book from my tbr list from @StaceyKondla and @Cortg

No description or reason for wanting to read it is necessary if you want to join along. #tbrpile

Cortg I like the cover of this book! 5y
Tove_Reads We‘re reading it as a buddy read right now! 🙂 5y
Texreader @Tove_Reads Cool! How far along are you into the buddy read? 5y

Tove_Reads We‘ve just started reading it. It‘s not a long book, so I‘ll finish it today or tomorrow. Maybe @EadieB and @andrew65 have read it by now? No daily targets set, just a chill buddy read. 5y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I'm about 1/2 way. Too much explicit sex for me and the story is not as good as his other books. IMHO @Andrew65 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB About the same as you, about halfway through. Okay read but agree not up to the standard of many if his books. @Tove_Reads @Texreader 5y

For the Ken Follett buddy reads with @Tove_Reads and @EadieB I have started Paper Money.

EadieB @Andrew I‘m starting that one too. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Looks like quite a quick read. Starts off with what looks like a foolish politician! (edited) 5y

Time for another Follett in June! Less than 300 pages. Weird 😂
