“Because she knew that Esperanza loved her, Adelita's heart stayed as warm as the fire in the hearth.“

The illustrations and brightly colors used in the book make the story and pages come to life. It brings awareness to the culture and sheds light on Cinderella from a new perspective.
The illustrator uses mosaic-like tile backgrounds and shades to make the pictures and story come to life. People that like the tale of Cinderella will enjoy this spinoff that talks about Adelita. After her father passed, she was left at home with her stepmother and step sisters. A nanny is her fairy god mother to help her wear something to a party thar was thrown for a wealthy family's son.
Adelita is a Mexican version of Cinderella. It is very similar to the version we all know, but this version includes the Mexican culture. The Spanish language is used throughout the book, along with the English language. I would use this book for Readers Theatre, because there are many characters the students can portray. Students who speak Spanish can share their beautiful language. #ucflae3414sp20
Tomie DePaola's TL book "Adelita" tells the classic Cinderella tale through characters of Mexican heritage. This would be a great book to have to encourage multicultural reading as well as representing your diverse students! A read aloud guide that includes other works of DePaola can be found here: http://www.penguin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/TomieDepola_TeachersGuide_FNL_...
