Students will have fun with Ronald Dahl's twist on popular poems and nursery rhymes. If you like Jon Scieszka's "The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs", you'll love this! Students can make and share their own revolting rhymes here at https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/revolting-rhymes-6195218 #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding Roald Dahl was a man of many talents. These rhymes will appeal to some of your young readers. 8y

Important topics such as free will, individuality, and tradition are seen throughout and have many applications to modern day society. Towers Falling | Jewell Parker Rhodes
post image

Rhodes does something great with this RF book, which is create a story about an event they may or may not know of in a way that explains, challenges, and engages. We feel so strongly about 9/11 because most of us were alive, or have strong memories attached to the event, but I know so many kids that can't explain it past the basic details. I will definitely have this in my classroom library! #ucflae3414sp17

christinathorpe Rhodes provides a teaching guide on her website here: http://jewellparkerrhodes.com/children/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Towers-Falling.... The guide challenges students' biases and brings up powerful discussions on stereotypes and prejudice. 8y
Mariachen This book has actually been calling my name for a long time. I find interest in historical events and I can already tell this book would be extremely interesting to me. 8y
DanielleS This book seems like a great book for SS! I'll have to pick it up and read it sometime! 8y

Author Brad Meltzer and Illustrator Chris Eliopoulos work together to create books in a series called "Ordinary People Change the World". This book is one of them, and it follows the story of Amelia Earhart through fun, pleasing illustrations. I think the inspiration behind this book and series is great, and can be found here: http://bradmeltzer.com/TV-Kids-and-More/I-Am-Abraham-Lincoln/Q-A. This would be great for an author study! #ucflae3414sp17

The City of Ember | Jeanne DuPrau
post image

After researching Jeanne DuPrau for my author study, I've decided that I'm going to read The City of Ember series! I have heard of the books before but have never read them, so I'm glad I picked her for my glog. Science fiction is my favorite genre, so I'm excited to read about this dystopian society and the kids that want to save it. #ucflae3414sp17

A Snicker of Magic | Natalie Lloyd
post image

This low fantasy novel follows Felicity, her mom, her little sister, and their dog after they move to a once magical town called Midnight Gulch. Felicity starts a new school and feels out of place, but during her time here she grows more confident in herself, her family, and her powers. This book is well suited for intermediate grades or higher level primary students! Natalie's bio and teacher resources can be found at http://www.natalielloyd.com

DrSpalding I believe this was a sunshine state young reader award book. If the town doesn't exist, wouldn't it be high fantasy? 8y
krystag I've never seen this book before! The cover is very interesting and one that would grab my attention! I love fantasy books so I will definitely have to add this to my list. Especially if is is a sunshine state young reader! 8y
