This has been compared to Judy Blume‘s Forever, but I prefer the original. Nothing is left to the imagination, and this is marketed to young adults with characters who are seniors in high school.
TLDR: a quiet smart track girl falls for the cool track star.
Good:
Judy Blume like honesty
Good characters
Honest ending
Honesty about sex
Bad
Derivative
Nostalgic language about kids going through their first love.
YA. At first I thought it was going to be a friends to more book, but it's really about how main character navigates her first relationship, from her insecurities to having sex to the inevitable parting of ways. Wished there was an HEA epilogue many years in the future, but the ending was just right.
I read reviews comparing this to Forever by Judy Blume.... one big difference was my Dad didn‘t have to buy it for me .... it was an easy fun read.
Happy book birthday to I Never! This is a sex positive YA book about everything that comes with your first love
Here's my review

I loved this YA romance. Janey is in her first serious relationship and Hopper does a great job of creating a healthy, mature relationship between Janey and her boyfriend as they decide to have sex. Honesty, communication and respect for each other- Hopper shows that great relationships can happen. I think teens will love this book for the story but also because it gives enough information to answer any questions they might have
If you've ever read Forever by Judy Blume, and liked it; then this is the book for you!! Reading I Never made me feel like a teenager all over again. Laura Hopper did a great job creating such a beautiful and descriptive book. This book will take you through your first love, your first time, the importantance of friendship, and how easy or hard "goodbye" can be ❤
