I‘m not ready to say goodbye to Hilary, Selena, Julia, Cantrip and Ragwort 😭 Sarah Caudwell‘s writing in this series was fun, engaging and kept my interest! I loved the wry British humour and the dialogue between all the characters was top-notch. I highly recommend her books 👍👍👍👍

Happy Mother‘s Day to all the mamas out there! This quote from my current read (tagged) is perfect for today.

“I was soon afterwards comfortably settled in the saloon bar of the Newt and Ninepence with all that a reasonable woman could require for absolute contentment - that is to say, a glass of wine, a toasted sandwich, and a detective story I had never read before.”

This is a fun, very English, lighthearted murder mystery. Professor Hilary Tamar is a bit of an amateur detective and their friends won‘t stop teasing them about it but they do figure out the mystery… eventually. I was impressed by how smoothly the author avoided anything that would indicate Hilary‘s gender, less so by the shenanigans to avoid describing one relationship as gay. Didn‘t quite feel like every single dot was connected by the end.
