Big Fit Girl: Embrace the Body You Have | Louise Green
8 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
In Big Fit Girl, Louise Green describes how the fitness industry fails to meet the needs of plus-size women and thus prevents them from improving their health and fitness. By telling her own story of how she stopped dieting, got off the couch, and unleashed her inner athleteas well as showcasing similar stories from other womenGreen inspires other plus-size women to do the same. Green also provides concrete advice, based on the latest research, about how to get started, how to establish a support team, how to choose an activity, what kind of clothing and gear work best for the plus-size athlete, how to set goals, and how to improve ones relationship with food. And she stresses the importance of paying it forwardfor it is only by seeing plus-size women in leadership roles that other plus-size women will be motivated to stop trying to lose weight and get fit instead.

I have mixed feelings about this book, honestly. Perhaps the problem is that this book is for someone who is just starting (or has yet to start) their athletic journey, and I‘m well on my way. If you‘re just getting started or wanting to get started, this is the book for you.
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics I feel like the middle chapters could have been organised differently to make it easier to read about each sport in one place. It would be easier for readers who know what sport they want to try and for those wanting to read them all because they don‘t know where they want to start. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 5y
GingerAntics The final chapter seemed unnecessary as all the information was spread throughout the book, so it just seemed repetitive. The nutrition section seemed to boarder on not being completely anti-diet in places. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 5y
GingerAntics Green is obviously really passionate about what she does and that really comes through. I follow her on IG and found out she‘s writing another book. I don‘t know what specific topic it‘s about, but if it applies to me more, I‘ll read it. This topic just wasn‘t really what I needed and not really want I thought I was getting. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 5y
GingerAntics I expected more of possible technique differences or approach differences. This book occasionally mentioned that modifications might need to be made, but ended there. #LouiseGreen #BigFitGirl 5y

This is so important. We need to feed our bodies what they need. If you‘re hungry, it‘s because your body needs nourishment it hasn‘t been given. Ignoring that is not a good thing. It is not self control. It is self neglect.

One of the platitudes from the platitude section of this book, yet still, in many ways, something that needs to be said over and over again.

Sad Facts...somehow the minority are the only “worthy” or “attractive” people.
#LouiseGreen #BigFitGirl

Texreader Isn‘t that true all our lives? I certainly remember that from school when I battled acne and couldn‘t afford the latest designer clothes. 5y
GingerAntics @Texreader you and me both. Somehow, “good enough” is always the minority and those who don‘t qualify have little to no chance of qualifying. It‘s sad, but true. It seems really dumb. 5y

It‘s fun when the facts are different than what people expect...so they all just ignore them. 🙄

Thought it‘d be more about her own personal journey to body acceptance but that was skimmed over. Does talk about brands that make plus size clothing so if you‘re plus sized, that‘s helpful. For those of us who aren‘t skinny, and aren‘t plus-sized, but carry a few extra pounds, maybe not that helpful. Her style made me feel lectured, not encouraged.

Was not expecting the book to be filled with hashtags and vows to make some sort of pledge or other. There are a lot of vows & pledges and hashtags. If that‘s your thing, than this is your book.
