He came through my hometown a few years ago. He was generous, kind, and I will always have a special love for him, and his humility and treatment of children who always seemed to draw the short stick in life. RIP.

Around the turn of the century, I spent some time in West Africa. Ghanaian kids were all reading Rule of the Bone, smoking crap local weed, hating Monica Lewinsky, and asking if I had a sister they could marry in order to come to USA and meet Michael Jordan. No shit. Perfect book, perfect time
The book that really turned me into an avid reader. I think many in my generation will be able to identify with Bone. Part Holden Caufield, part Odysseus, part every teen, bone leaves home and learns a lot about himself and the world he inhabits in this fantastic novel.
