Skylark | Patricia MacLachlan
When Sarah came to the prairie, Anna and her brother Caleb worried that she would not stay and be their new mother. But Sarah fell in love with Caleb and Anna, and with their father, Jacob. Together they became a family. Jacob is a man of the land but for Sarah, the prairie isn't yet her home. So when a drought threatens to devastate their way of life, Jacob must save the farm. But the children go back to the home Sarah knew first, Maine, where there is family and an ocean. But will they ever be a family again on the prairie?

In the second book of the Sarah, Plain and Tall series we get to see Sarah and Jacob settling in as a family after their marriage. Sarah's heart is with her new family, but she doesn't love the land yet. A draught and a trip home to her beloved Maine helps her to find the peace she needs. A beautiful addition to the series.

Sequel to Sarah Plain and Tall ❤️❤️
“My mother, Sarah, doesn't love the prairie. She tries, but she can't help remembering what she knew first.”
Lyrical and written with grace 😌

My son and I really liked this sequel to Sarah, Plain, and Tall. There is a drought on the prairie and the children and Sarah head east leaving papa to tend to the farm as the drought worsens. I think these books make a nice read before getting into longer books like little house on the prairie. Great for kids who like books that depict realistic characters and how children lived during different time periods.

This is the second book in the series that began with Sarah, Plain and Tall, winner of the Newberry Medal. There is a drought, and the land and animals are suffering. With no rain in sight, Sarah takes the children to her family home in Maine, while Papa stays to protect the farm. Once again, spare, beautiful writing. I couldn‘t help but think about the current devastation in California, and how difficult it is for nature and man to live in harmony.

Continuing a mini “Book Club” with my ESL student. I am so happy that she is enjoying reading in English! We both love this tender series.

I haven‘t seen Sarah, Plain and Tall or Skylark in so long... it has been a treat to be able to watch them again. This is the standard to which I told all book adaptations.
