5th book in the Inspector McLean series. I enjoy this series because each book has a paranormal element that makes it unique from the other police procedurals I have read. Oswald also created such memorable characters that I was able to jump right back into the series despite it being 2 years since I read the last one. This was my least favorite to date because although the story started and ended with a bang, the mid section was slow.

I just started the next book in the Inspector McLean series.

“He kneels before me like a penitent, face to the stone wall. The bag over his head means he can‘t see the indentations in the rock face…”

I get hooked by the first sentences. The first chapters are always intriguing and a great start to a compelling mystery. This one is no exception. I‘ve no idea where it will take me. I love trying to solve Oswald‘s murder mysteries!

Book 16 2021- this is the straw in this series that broke this camels back. It just felt to me as though the author has lost his way a little and this book had lots of threads that didn‘t lead to anything very satisfactory. I won‘t be reading any more of this series for a while. Probably a good thing as I have quite a lot of #booked2021 to catch up on!!!

My reading at the weekend included the fifth in the DI McLean series set in Edinburgh. A property development, a body found in a set of man made caves in the heart of the city, and the ever present sense of supernatural forces at work. An enjoyable character and series which doesn't stray into the ridiculous (always a worry for me in crime novels with spooky element).

Hard to review this book as I do enjoy the series but generally found this one quite muddled and mixed up with a lot of different plot points & feeling as if there was no theme to the central investigation. In general I enjoyed reading it, and the end partially brought it together but I expect more from this series. I think Tony needs Emma back in his life and he needs more of a foil to bounce ideas off during the investigation. Fingers crossed🤞

DI Tony McLean is handed one of the darkest puzzles of his career. With lack of forensic evidence it proves to be a challenge. Bodies begin to stack up and McLean knows he will strike again unless they can stop him. Oswald has once again given us an easy read with interesting characters. I‘m looking forward to the next installment. Recommended!
