Darkover Landfall
Darkover Landfall: A Darkover Book | Marion Zimmer Bradley
5 posts | 10 read | 3 to read
Darkover, a planet of wonder, world of mystery, has been a favourite of science fiction readers for many years. For it is a truly alien sphere - a world of strange intelligences of brooding skies beneath a ruddy sun, and of powers unknown to Earth. In this new novel, Mario Zimmer Bradley tells of the original coming of the Earthmen, of the days when Darkover knew not humanity. This is the full bodied novel of what happened when a colonial starship crashlanded on that uncharted planet to encounter for the first time in human existence the impact of the Ghost Wind, of the psychic currents that were native only to that world, and of the price that every Earthling must pay before Darkover can claim for itself.

I read this one as part of my library summer reading challenge, and I‘m glad I did, but it is a strange little book. A colonization ship crash lands on a planet they weren‘t aiming for, and their society immediately begins to break down due to mysterious circumstances. Interesting, but a trifle dated.

So here is an old picture, from when I was first getting into #darkover. I love the series, but I actually like the prequels more then the more famous/popular ‘main series‘ 😅 #cleartheshelvesgiveaway @mrozzz So kind of you to do a giveaway 💚

@Liberty is generously giving away a copy of Artemis. And it's open to everyone.

I used to love the Darkover series. Friends would send me used copies of the books from all over the world.

#riotgrams #catchingup #WeirdestBookCover @bookriot I have some choice ones. All from the 60s/70s. The winner though must be the one in the middle, the tagged book. Or maybe the cover of World's End, By Joan D. Vinge

Interesting concepts. Yes, I'm late in discovering.
