Have You Seen My Dragon?
Have You Seen My Dragon? | Steve Light
5 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
Enter a fascinating, ornately drawn cityscape and help a boy find his dragon while counting objects from hot dogs to traffic lights. In the heart of the city, among the taxis and towers, a small boy travels uptown and down, searching for his friend. Readers will certainly spot the glorious beast, plus an array of big-city icons they can count. Is the dragon taking the crosstown bus, or breathing his fiery breath below a busy street? Maybe he took a taxi to the zoo or is playing with the dogs in the park. Steve Light's masterful pen-and-ink illustrations, decorated with meticulous splashes of color, elevate this counting book (numbers 1-20) to new heights. Maybe the dragon is up there, too!

#BookBinge Day 10: This book #InvolvesDragon. I enjoyed the play in colours, perfect for developing visual literacy among young kids. And of course, the reader can always find the dragon, even if the young boy can‘t seem to find it as it sneaks past the subway or hides itself on top of a truck. My review with a smorgasbord of even more dragon books here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-ecF

This is a cute MF picture book in which a little boy is looking for his dragon in the city. On each page, the dragon is seen doing something different such as eating hot dogs, or riding the bus. This would be a good book for CR. http://reederama.blogspot.com/2014/12/kindergarten-students-create-counting.html... This blog contains a cool lesson plan where students can create their own counting books based off of this one!

leximcmillin A UDL strategy that aligns with this book is 1.1 Offer ways of customizing display of information. This book has mostly pictures so it may be difficult for students to locate the parts they need to read. An EL strategy that aligns with this book is 14. Simplify your speech by making it slower and more redundant. #ucflae3414f19 5y
ChrisC Great book choice I‘ll definitely check this book out in the future 5y
DrSpalding I am surprised Dolores did not comment on this book. She has commented on most regarding dragons. She enjoys the fantasy genre. Most children do as well. Good choice and resource. 5y

This is an interactive picture book that is a Shared Reading accompaniment because as the reader progresses through the book they answer questions about the small boy‘s travels while searching for his friend. The book teaches readers about the details of big-city icons.
This website provides details for before SR, during SR, and after. It also tells how to do it in multiple settings.

MeaganM This book is a great way to incorporate EL strategy 1 because the questioning strategy promotes comprehension. This reading strategy and book recruit interest using UDL 7.3 because students have to stay engaged by finding the dragon and answering the questions. #ucflae3414su19 5y
DrSpalding Another great Reading Rockets resource! Nice alignment. Thoughtful post!❤️📚 5y

This was cute--a boy is looking for his dragon in different parts of the city, pointing out other things that he sees. Specific items are colored on each page along with interesting, thick-lined drawings. My son kept getting frustrated with the boy not seeing the dragon, and it made me think of every time I've been frustrated with a character for not realizing the obvious. 😂296 books! #wherethewildthingsare #90sInJuly #1000booksbeforekindergarten

Cinfhen Cute! And you're making progress- how many more days until kindergarten??? 7y
readinginthedark @Cinfhen Approximately 30 days! 🙄😆There's barely any chance we'll make it. I wish we would have known about the program before this summer! But I'm hoping we'll make it to 500, so he can get a book from the library, and then whenever we reach 1000, I'll take him to the bookstore and buy him another one myself. 😊 7y
Cinfhen I'm rooting for you💕such a fun idea😁 7y
