A man moves out of the Nordic city he lives in to stay in a cabin in the countryside alone, where he ponders the pending climate emergency and what he can do about it. Interspersed with memories of his former life as a university photographer, where he was on assignment taking photos of owls in a scientific study.

On the surface this shouldn't have been my kind of book - it's a little disjointed and often enough feels pretty aimless. But once I made it through the first third of the book, I fell hard for the moody atmosphere and the hazy and dreamlike storytelling.

One of those books where I had to keep reading to see how the story would end, and now that it has I'm undecided about whether or not it was satisfying.

I'm still processing this book because I literally just finished it, but it's really good. More on that later. :)

This book is keeping me up tonight. (Which, ironically, does mean it's dark out. 😉) So good!

It's actually so good that I just ordered 6 more titles from the publisher, Two Dollar Radio. I'll be looking forward to that book mail! 😍

BookishFeminist I love Two Dollar Radio so much. I pick up their stuff whenever I get the chance 📻 8y

OffTheBeatenShelf.com @BookishFeminist That's awesome! I'm really lucky because I live in Columbus, OH now, which is where they're based, so it's convenient running into them around town. They've got some new ones up for preorder right now that sound fantastic! 8y
