Eye of the Storm by Rick Thomas, illustrated by Denise Shea is a NF PB that explains how hurricanes form, the consequences that come from them, and how people prepare for them. This book has bright colors throughout as well as great visuals and would be great for a RA, especially in a Florida school before a hurricane possibly hits. #ucflae3414f19

KristenScala I would use UDL strategy 3.1 to active and supply students background knowledge about hurricanes. I would use EL strategy 50 to have students conduct a KWL chart to see what they already know, what they wonder, and what they learned about hurricanes.

This lesson plan can be used after reading this book, prompting students to create a preparedness plan, as well as a survival kit.

DrSpalding The Florida Department of education obviously knows that this is a book that they should have resources for! Sadly, students need to know all about hurricane preparedness and this is a helpful book and resource to do just that. Believe it or not this is not just science but also social studies knowledge according to the Florida standards. 5y
