Thirteen-year-old twins Vick and Tara have built an incredible machine--a loyal robotic watchdog named Daisy. But, when local crime boss Ms. Alba schemes to add Daisy to her robot army, Vick and Tara must go to great lengths to protect their prized pet. Because Daisy is more than just any robot--she's their constant protector, and together the three make a great team. Vick and Tara are determined to stop the mob from tearing their little family apart. And they might just succeed! Sure, the evil Ms. Alba has more robot watchdogs, but none are as smart--or as faithful--as their Daisy. Plus, if things get too dangerous, Tara could always upgrade their pet. With her mechanical skills, she could make Daisy bigger, stronger, and a lot more intimidating! "Engaging, suspenseful, and with nearly all the vivid fighting confined to robots, this gritty tale is perfect for a younger audience than most post-apocalyptic stories." --Kirkus Reviews "This compelling drama with cool tech themes and bad guys getting their comeuppance is a winner." --SLJ

My son and I have both read Will McIntosh's Watchdog, a middle-grade sci fi book that is both action packed and thought provoking. (McIntosh is going to speak soon at our local middle school, and I‘m looking forward to hearing him!) The novel's protagonist, Vick, is a twin whose sister, Tara, is autistic. Striving to make it on their own after the death of their mother and the abandonment of their father, Vick and Tara search garbage heaps, ⬇️

UnabridgedPod trying to find enough valuable trash to rent their own place. One day, Tara finds the perfect piece of garbage, the one that allows her to build Daisy, a mechanical watchdog that becomes the twins' companion and protector. They are drawn, however, into the plans of a local crime boss who wants to take advantage of Tara's talents.⠀⬇️ 4y
UnabridgedPod McIntosh does a brilliant job developing Vick as an empathetic, nuanced character whose priority is protecting Tara. As the twins meet enemies and allies, they begin to figure out how they can tell who to trust and who to avoid. This book is perfect for middle-grade readers, but I enjoyed it just as much.⠀

Has anyone read this one? What middle-grade sci fi have you read and enjoyed? Also, how pretty is my pup!?!

Finished this today. I don‘t typically read Middle Grade Fiction but I read anything by Will McIntosh. This was a fun little sci-fi tale with McIntosh‘s flair for creating plausible near future scenarios. I already bought this one for the nephews.

Recieved this in the mail after the author gave away 50 free copies. It looks like an easy read and rather interesting. Once I finsh the book I'm currently reading, I might start this!
