Dark Rivers of the Heart
Dark Rivers of the Heart: A Novel | Dean Koontz
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Dean Koontz's The City. A man and a woman meet by chance in a bar. Suddenly they are fleeing the long arm of a clandestine and increasingly powerful renegade government agency -- the woman hunted for the information she possesses, the man mistaken as her comrade in a burgeoning resistance movement. The architect of the chase is a man of uncommon madness and cruelty -- ruthless, possibly psychotic, and equipped with a vast technological arsenal. He is the brazen face of an insidiously fascistic future. And he is virtually unstoppable. But he has never before come up against the likes of his current quarry. Both of them are survivors of singularly horrific pasts. Both have long been emboldened by their experiences to fight with reckless courage for their own freedom. Now they are plunged into a struggle for the freedom of their country, and for the sanctity of their own lives. Dark Rivers of the Heart is an electrifying thriller that steers us along the razor edge of a familiar, terrifying reality.

#54 of my year. Haven‘t read Koontz in a long while. Been in the mood for some creepy thrillers and so gonna dive into this one. I promised my son I wouldn‘t read today...but he‘s asleep so I will sneak in a few hours 🤫 lol he‘s 17 and STILL hates when I read instead of spending time with him 🥰 I hope he never grows out of that.

Caffeinated_Reader Well I was mad at the way it ended. I thought it could have been more revengeful lol but all‘s well that ends well I guess. Other than that, a fantastic story. Masterfully told. Many snippets from this book will stick with me. 5y

Pickpick

This was definitely not a horror book. I don‘t want to spoil it at all. So I will just say it had conspiracy and thrills along with a killer. Overall, I enjoyed it although it wasn‘t my favorite Koontz book.

A colleague of mine suggested I read this book... eventually, I will.
Opinions? Has anyone else read it?

Elizabeth2 I read this so long ago, but I remember it being an excellent novel. At the time, Koontz was a go to author for me - I‘d read anything by him. 6y
SailorMoon @Elizabeth2 thanks for your opinion! Have you ever read anything by Gillian Flynn? They're crime novels with a lot of psychology hints in them. I'm wondering if this is the case? Is this author this good, I am curious! 6y
Elizabeth2 @SailorMoon I have read Gillian Flynn, and I like her. Dean Koontz is an excellent author, especially his older works (like this one). Sometimes, I can‘t read his books after dark or when I‘m alone in the house because they are that creepy. Many times his have elements of supernatural or fantasy in them, which is where he differs from Flynn. While Flynn‘s novels are disturbing they don‘t have the same edge of horror that Koontz does. Elizabeth2 @SailorMoon but I don‘t find Koontz as scary as Stephen King. I love the psychological thriller genre, and Koontz is very good at it. 6y
SailorMoon @Elizabeth2 you foresaw my next question... I was wondering about it having supernatural elements in it, because I really don't like when the story doesn't stay "real" and down to earth. That's why I love Gillian Flynn so much, or Camila Läckberg. Thanks for the heads up! 6y
SailorMoon @Elizabeth2 I've only read one by SK and I've been told it's the only not scary he's ever written... 11/22/63 😅 6y
Elizabeth2 @SailorMoon I used to read King quite a bit when I was in my late teens/early 20s, but after Pet Sematary (which I couldn‘t finish) I wasn‘t as much of a fan. I did like Misery and Delores Claiborne, which are both disturbing psychological thrillers without that horror element. 6y
