pickThis collection of short stories was enjoyable and engaging.
That says a lot coming from a reader who doesn't typically like short stories!
The stories take place in the South and feature mostly "dirt-roaders" in their day to day existence.
This came to me in a subscription box. I never would have picked it up on my own, but am glad to have read it and be able to recommend it ?
The character is introduced as 'Donny' but then referred to as 'Danny' for the rest of the story...

I like my toast dark & crispy! 😋 And I like bright covers like this one I‘m starting. 🌝 I‘ve been sitting on this for quite awhile and the time is right for a collection of shorts.
pickShort stories, all have as a theme life as a young, poor African-American girl in the South. Very readable, although the situations the characters find themselves in are not necessarily the greatest, the writing is so straight forward that the book is not depressing (okay- but not uplifting either!) One story ends badly for more than one dog, so if you are grieving after the loss of a loved pup, you might want to read sonething else.
pickThis is one of the more consistently solid short story collections I have read in a while. The wonderful, yet simple writing style, is incredibly effective in telling about the every day lives of this group of women in the South. Highly recommended.
Has anyone listened to “Unassigned Territory” on LeVar Burton Reads? First, I loved the story and am anxious to read the collection. But, I was puzzled by LaVar‘s interpretation of the end in his reflection on it. I listened to the end 3-4 times thinking I‘m missing something. Will someone listen and set me straight???
