One which is written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi is a great book about bullying and emotions through the use of colors. This is a good way to portray bullying because kids aren‘t seeing someone who looks like them bullying someone else or being bullied. I would definitely read this book in my future class room to teach social and emotional lessons.

This adorable book uses colors to talk about emotions. Throughout the book the illustrator uses the size of the color characters to portray emotions. For example when red is making fun of everyone he gets really big because he seems really powerful and it makes all of the other colors feel really small.

“Soon Red grew so big that everyone was afraid of him. No one dared stop him. Red picked on all the colors. Then everyone felt… a little blue.”

This story is adorable and talks about how different colors can relate to feelings and how colors may not treat others fairly.

This book was published in 2008 and uses water colors to express the different colors represented in the book. It is very simple and a great way to introduces colors, and how colors can represent feelings that children are having in a way that is intriguing and not using human characters.

Great story with powerful pictures and a powerful message. Would recommend for educators talking about standing up for others.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story sends a great message about how it only takes one to stand up to someone who may be mean and to be inclusive to all. Even with the simple text and drawings the story sends a great message. The illustrator did an excellent job showing when red was mad or when blue was sad by making red really big or making blue really small and thin.

I liked how the book can teach children about colors and numbers but it also has a much more powerful meaning within it as well

This is such a great book to teach children that being different is okay and to always stand up for yourself and others.

This quote I like a lot because “1” finally stands up to red and says no! An important life skill that I would like to teach my kids is that it‘s okay to say no, and this book lets that happen!

This book is sweet and simple. The colors pop on the page and the design is simple enough to where you want to keep reading. It‘s also not super complex writing so it easy to follow. This would be a great book to read with younger kids at the beginning of the year or whenever sees fit regarding feelings and handling emotions or friends relationships.

One by Kathryn Otoshi 2008. This book looks at feelings but turns them into colors. Usually, people associate feelings with colors and this book does it nicely. It then transitions into the colors turning into numbers and having the “1” stand up for everyone to the bully. Everyone then leads by example and eventually they all come together.

This is a fabulous children's book that teaches how to deal with bullying. There's enough word play to make it enjoyable for an adult, but it's simple enough for young children. Highly recommend.
